If you’d told me a couple of years ago that I’d be running my own business from home, I’d have thought you had the wrong person.
For years I worked in hospitality. For the most part I loved it and being around people, but everything changed when I had my first son. I left that world behind because the commuting, weekends and lack of flexibility just didn’t fit with having a baby anymore.
Then Covid hit. Like it did for so many families, it turned everything upside down and made me really rethink what I wanted life to look like. I wanted to be more hands-on with my boys but I also needed to contribute financially without going back to the juggle I had before.
I’d got it into my head that you had to be one or the other...a really present mum, OR someone with their own income and ambition. It took me a while to realise you’re allowed to want both.
Two years ago I decided to go for it and start my little bookshop from home. No business background, not a lot of confidence, just a mum of two boys who wanted a different way of doing things.
It’s not been perfect, but it’s allowed me to work around school, sickness bugs (plenty of those), holidays and real life...instead of trying to fit real life around work. It’s given me something that’s mine, alongside being their mum.
That’s why I’m looking to chat to a few other mums who feel a bit stuck like I did.
Maybe you’re tired of not being able to make the school play or sports day without a battle for time off.
Maybe you love being Mum but you miss having something for YOU.
Maybe you just want a little extra coming in for treats, trips, birthdays and Christmas without the constant pressure.
If you’ve been quietly thinking “there has to be another way to do this” there just might be.
I’m happy to have a no-pressure chat, about what I do and how I fit it in with two boys.
Just drop me a message or comment BOOKS below and I’ll get back to you.
