Do you remember your first car boot sale? Taylor does, and always will.

Episode one saw Petor and Taylor begin their journey. Taylor’s in the country to discover something new from Brooks England. Petor is giving him a lift to Birmingham. Together, they’re travelling up the country, one questionable purchase at a time.

A battered bike. A disordered set of socket wrenches. A camera with no film. At least two pints of stout. It’s quite the road trip these two have been on. But what’s at the end of the road, find out in the next and final episode.

To attempt to improve it was no whim. For starters, the B17 was always an excellent saddle. We had no intention of tinkering with a beloved formula simply for the sake of it, but when presented with the opportunity to elevate a legend even further…

Episode two live on Monday.

Brooks England recently had the pleasure of visiting two of China’s most populous cities, the capital Beijing and the southern city of Shenzhen, for a pair of hands-on workshops and guided group rides. Both cities are deserving of the term ‘metropolis’, with a combined population of almost 40 million. As you’d expect, there’s plenty of bikes on the streets and lots of people to ride them.

The workshop allowed guests to have a go at caring for a leather saddle, while the city ride provided a chance to try out Brooks saddles.

We must thank our friends at for lending us their Junction spaces in both cities, and for laying on the coffees during the workshop. The group rides were completed on a fabulous fleet of folding bikes as well.

Truly, Brooks and Brompton make for an unbeatable urban partnership.

This is the finest expression of our most enduring product. It took a century to improve our best-loved saddle, but it was worth the wait.

How do you improve on perfection? Give it time.

Medusa Cycles is a one-man frame builder from Manchester in England. The founder, Pete Skelton, is – like most who choose this trade – a lifelong cyclist who found their way into the business of making bikes quite naturally.

The Medusa name is said to represent the freedom bikes provide (images of the snake-haired figure of Greek myth are used to denote liberty, and were popularly used by French Revolutionaries). Bikes made by Medusa Cycles often also share an unconventional appearance with their classical namesake; Skelton has said in the past that he was inspired to make frames that challenged the received wisdom of what a bike should look like. Skelton also says Medusa was indisputably “a badass” – which seems as good a reason to name your company after her as any.

To dig deeper into the origins, the ethos and why frame building – despite its drawbacks – is still better than working in a cotton mill, Brooks spoke to Skelton just after Bespoked 2026.

Tomo Bikes is a bespoke frame builder and fabricator based in Chertsey, Surrey. Although they carry a reputation for making some really exciting tall bikes, the company is proudly and loudly genre-agnostic, building frames of every type – and even working on the fabrication of other products like bags, furniture and wall mounts.

Founder, Jon Thompson incorporated the business in 2021, but it was never really a new venture, more as a continuation of something he’s been doing all his life: building bikes.

Stayer Cycles has been going for ten years, but their bikes still feel like a breath of fresh air. The company is led by frame builder, Sam Taylor, and wheel builder, Judith Rooze. The duo are supported by a small team and, between them, the Stayer crew manages to cover a remarkable amount of ground.

One of the things that makes Stayer interesting is that the company doesn’t just offer custom bicycles. There is a real utilitarian spirit behind what the business seeks to provide.

The Woods Cyclery is a world-famous destination for off-road cyclists, located in the New Forest in southern England. At its heart it is a bike shop and a cafe. The management cultivates a strong community of cyclists for shop events, but it’s also a popular stop for bike-people visiting from around the UK and even further afield.

What it isn’t is a bespoke frame builder, making it a less conventional presence at Bespoked than some of the companies with a stand in Peckham last month. It is not that the Woods doesn’t belong – quite the opposite in fact – but rather, that the company brought something fresh and different.

The second .bikes x Brooks Bike Jumble was hosted at the end of April in the sun-warmed courtyard outside the .cc handmade bike show in Peckham.

Babyldn’s events always draw a wonderfully mixed crowd. All of London cycling is there: students, collectors, old heads, people for whom the courier era never ended, and folks just hunting for that final piece of kit to complete a parts-bin chimera build.

Somehow, it all blends together without friction into something that can only be described with that oft-overused word: community. One person turned up with a pair of prototype Vans sneakers made exclusively for the Chinese market. Where else does that happen?
