Here we have a complete overhaul and upgrade of an old unique "Gecheno" for .
•
When it came to me it was unplayable, it had sharps frets which were also in the wrong places. The action was a mile high, the neck had no truss rod and was overly wide and fat, overall, it just was not good.
•
Swipe to see how it came to me.
•
I opted to carve a brand new neck out of the old one, adding a truss rod and a new rosewood fretboard with MOP inlays too to save as much of the old guitar as possible. I filled in the tremolo cavity and neck pocket too, to give the guitar the half-telecaster style bridge and accommodate the new standard sized neck.
•
I refinished the guitar in nitrocellulose. Aged Olympic White for the body, Dakota Red for the neck. Once I reshaped the neck and revealed the wood grain, Tom and I agreed that going for a double stinger and keeping the grain was a better decision than painting over it all. The headstock features a merging of the new and old finish around the logo, as the desire behind the project was to keep the vibe and as much of the originality as possible.
•
The tuners have been upgraded to Grover mini rotomatic, the bridge is Wilkinson, the frets are Hosco medium standard, the nut is graphtech. The pickguard, pickups, electronics and other hardware are all original to the guitar.
•
The guitar is now gig and studio ready, it feels great and the pickups are very unique and sound fantastic. This has been a very fun project, and I look forward to seeing what Tom does with it.
