🌙 GOODNIGHT SOUTH TYNESIDE 🫶

Before we disappear for the night, here’s a little extra video from this morning.

While we were down at the beach after the Grampian Tweed had made her way back up the Tyne, we grabbed a few extra bits of footage along the way.

It was very early, a little windy, and we thought pretty much everyone else in South Tyneside was still tucked up in bed…

Or so we thought. 😂

Turns out there were still a few people out and about taking a dip and enjoying the coast while the rest of us were questioning life choices at that time of the morning. 🤣

Nothing too serious with this one — just a few of the extra moments we captured while we were down there.

After today’s early start, we’re definitely ready for bed now. 😂

So from us here at South Tyneside Online, goodnight everyone. ❤️

Hope you’ve had a lovely evening, sleep well, and we’ll see you again tomorrow. 🫶🌊

🌙 GOOD EVENING SOUTH TYNESIDE 🫶

It’s been a bit of a quiet one from us today because, after a very early start this morning, I am absolutely shattered. 😂

Last week, we were asked if we could capture some footage of the Grampian Tweed returning to the Tyne after spending around a month at sea.

We decided we wanted to do a little more than simply film the vessel, so we contacted the right people to see if we could turn it into more of a feature.

A huge thank you to everyone who was brilliant and helped put us 🫶

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get permission to film onboard or out at sea, which we completely understand, but we were given permission to film the vessel externally as she returned.

So this morning, bright and very early, we headed down to The Groyne and waited for her coming home. 🚢

The wind was a little stronger than we would have liked and the light wasn’t exactly on our side either 😂, but we battled on and managed to capture the Grampian Tweed returning to the Tyne.

This won’t be the last you see of her either.

We’re hoping to capture more footage in the future, including some of the other vessels in the fleet, and bring you more information about the ships, the work they carry out at Dogger Bank and their connection to South Tyneside.

But for tonight, we’re going to leave you with this footage.

It’s a little longer than our usual videos… but we think it’s worth it. ❤️🚢

Once again, a massive thank you for the suggestion and to everyone at North Star for helping us with this one. It’s hugely appreciated. 😊🫶

Enjoy the video, South Tyneside. ❤️

👀 ROXANNE’S… COULD IT SOON HAVE A VERY DIFFERENT FUTURE?

Now this is one that will bring back a few memories for people in South Shields. 😂

Plans have been put forward to transform the former Roxanne’s nightclub site on Ocean Road into a 44-room guest house.

For anyone a little younger — or anyone whose memory of the place is understandably slightly blurry 🤣 — there’s actually quite a bit of history here.

The venue originally opened as Rupert’s nightclub in 1972, before becoming Roxanne’s in 1990. Rupert’s apparently had a reputation for cheap drinks… and a particularly memorable sticky carpet. 😂

And this isn’t the first attempt to give the building a new purpose.

Last year, plans involving student accommodation, including self-contained accommodation and HMO-style elements, were considered for the site. Those proposals covered the former Roxanne’s nightclub area along with other parts of the building and were eventually refused by South Tyneside Council’s Planning Committee in October 2025.

Now we’re onto a completely different idea:

🏨 44 guest rooms
📍 Ocean Road, South Shields
🏗️ Bringing a largely redundant former nightlife building back into use
👀 And potentially putting more overnight visitors within walking distance of the town centre, seafront and Ocean Road

That last point is probably where this proposal gets interesting.

South Shields already relies heavily on visitors for its hospitality and tourism economy, with the seafront, Ocean Road, the town centre and attractions all within a relatively small area. There is already a sizeable accommodation market locally, ranging from hotels to guest houses and holiday properties.

So could converting an old nightclub into visitor accommodation actually make sense?

Or would 44 rooms in this location create other issues around parking, traffic, noise or the surrounding area?

And perhaps the biggest question…

Would you rather see the old Roxanne’s building brought back into use as a guest house than see it sitting largely unused?

For those who actually went to Rupert’s or Roxanne’s…

We also need to know the important stuff. 😂

What was your best — or worst — memory of a night in there?

Keep it Facebook-safe, please. 🤣🙈

We’ll be keeping an eye on the planning application and will update everyone as it progresses.

🌅 Good morning, South Tyneside! 💙

We were up bright and early this morning and waiting down at The Groyne for the Grampian Tweed arriving back into port after spending the last month over at Dogger Bank Wind Farm. 🚢

We managed to capture the arrival, and we’ll be bringing that to you over the next few days. 👀🎥

What surprised us most though was just how busy the beach is first thing in the morning.

Dog walkers everywhere, nurdle clean-up workers already getting stuck in, and even a few brave souls having a leisurely early morning dip. 🥶😂

Fair play to them… we were cold enough just standing there holding a camera.

Right South Tyneside, have a wonderful morning whatever you’re doing. 💙

We’ll be back this afternoon. 👋

🌙 GOODNIGHT SOUTH TYNESIDE 🫶

It’s been a busy one behind the scenes today, so we hope you haven’t missed us too much. 😂

Tomorrow is going to be an early start for us…

Earlier in the week we mentioned that we had been seeking permission from a company to capture some footage. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get permission to film internally, which we totally understand and completely respect, but we are really pleased that they were happy to give us permission to film externally with their consent. 🫶

So… early start it is. 👀🚁

And that’s all we’re saying about that for now. 😂

In other news, tomorrow we officially welcome Phat Mama’s onboard South Tyneside Online! 🙌

You’ll be able to order through our platform with local delivery available, and we’ve shared their link below.

If you can see the menu when you open the link… they deliver to you. 🫶

Right, that’s us for tonight.

Goodnight everyone, we’ll see you very, very early in the morning… around 4:30am early 🤣🤯 and, as always, have a wonderful evening. ❤️

🌙 SUNDAY EVENING CHECK-IN! 👋💙

We’ve been a little quieter than usual on here today… but definitely not because we’ve had our feet up. 😂

Most of Sunday has been spent behind the scenes adding new features to South Tyneside Online, tidying a few things up and getting a couple more local businesses added to the platform. 🙌

We’ve also been working on our new South Tyneside Online News section. 📰

We’ve partnered up with the Chronicle’s South Tyneside news feeds to bring you the latest local stories and updates in one place, making it easier to keep an eye on what’s happening across the borough.

And this is only the start — we’ve got more new features coming to South Tyneside Online over the next little while too. 👀💙

Basically, while the weather has spent all day unable to make its mind up, we’ve been sitting behind a computer making more things. 🤣

☀️ Sunny one minute.
🌧️ Rain showers the next.
☁️ Then cloud.
☀️ Then the sun pops back out pretending absolutely nothing happened.

Honestly, today’s weather has had more costume changes than a Saturday night at the Customs House. 😂

A quick one as well — if you’ve emailed us over the weekend, don’t worry if you haven’t had a reply yet. We’ll be working through everything and will get back to you before the end of Monday. 💙

Anyway… enough about what we’ve been doing.

What’s everyone else been up to this Sunday? 👀

Did you manage to dodge the showers, or did you leave the house in sunshine and come home looking like you’d been swimming in the North Sea? 🤣🌧️

And of course… tomorrow is Monday. Brace yourselves. 😂☕️

Have a lovely Sunday evening, everyone. 🫶
