The Shop at South Stoke

The Shop at South Stoke A community shop selling basic groceries and some nice treats. The Shop at South Stoke is a community shop, run by volunteers and a part time manager.

We are located on the Recreation Ground at South Stoke, off Cross Keys Road. We have a small car park and we are right next door to a wonderful playground. We sell all essential foods and materials plus a few of life's little luxuries. We sell teas and coffees, cakes and pastries, sweets and snacks, ice-creams and lollies, wine and beer, newspapers and magazines, fresh vegetables and frozen meals.

Come and give us a try, you will at least get a smile. And, of course, we are always looking for new volunteers who can spend a few hours running the shop. Full training given.

Work on the new Community Shop is set to start very soon!!!

Please see the message from our wonderful manager Sam on behalf of the Shop Board.

Good morning,

Our original plan was to operate from a temporary shop at the other end of the car park while the new shop premises are being constructed.

We have now made the very difficult decision not to do this, as providing temporary power to another unit is proving very problematic and, as it is on the recreation ground, too much of a health and safety risk. It would also limit car parking space for recreation ground users, which we are keen to avoid.

We will therefore be closing the shop on 1st May for a couple of months to allow us all to focus fully on the new premises and get the new shop and café open as soon as possible.

We do appreciate that, for some of our customers, not having a nearby shop will be a problem. Therefore, we will, of course, be happy to help with getting shopping – please give Sam a call on 07757 780582 and she can help.

It is also an opportunity to give our wonderful volunteers a small break, although we would like to call on them (and the village) to help get the new premises ready and open as quickly as we can.

Please get in touch if you are able to help - this could be practical help (decorating, furniture assembling etc), or do you perhaps have space in your garage or shed to store surplus stock during the project?

We'd like to thank everyone for their continued support and look forward to a grand opening this summer.

New Shop Update!

Villagers and friends of the South Stoke Community Shop,

As you all know, planning permission for our new village shop was obtained over two years ago and we have all been busy raising funds for the project ever since. Almost everything is in place now to commence - a purpose built pavilion style structure has been designed and can be erected within nine weeks of order, builders are on standby, villagers on hand to take care of electrics and fit out. All we need now is the money.

Our estimate of total spend is £165,000 and, following a recent campaign we now have close to £150,000 accumulated through a cocktail of gifts, donations, grants and long term loans. We are getting very close to being in a position to commence construction. Only £15,000 or so to get across the line!

Whether you have contributed already or not, if any of you are able to add to our total, whether by small or great contribution, we would be extremely grateful. We would dearly love to be up and running by the summer in our new home which will include a cosy tea shop for a new daytime meeting place.
