Yew is my favourite wood to make buttons from. With a careful touch you can complete the whole button at 4000rpm (which is not always the case!) and the buttons and shavings fly off of the work. But its also fickle, if you linger or offer up a tool that isn't freshly sharpened and it will chatter or burn rapidly.

More so than any other button Yew feels like the wood you can capture the most of the trees story, the variations of spaces between those rings are literally history. Years where the tree grew faster or slower.

All the wood I use is sourced with care. But this Yew is one of the few woods I have collected directly from a local tree surgeon. This tree had to come down from a private garden and this work saved it from becoming chip or firewood.

Shows are so validating, so many people walk past glance and immediately come in to our stall. At times I feel very old fashioned by focusing exclusively on my products, the range, the finish and the price. Lots of advice now is to push for going viral on social media and jacking up the price to "find better customers". Obviously every business is different, but I love that at shows, so many of my interactions with customers are after they have already chosen to purchase.

has been great and our stand on Saturday was very busy all day, only slowing down right at the end.
