‘Witchland’ is the vivid, intimate and eye-opening story of fanaticism, inequality and violence towards those persecuted in the brutal witch hunts in England and Scotland that occurred amidst the unrest of the 1640s.

Expertly researched and drawing on newly uncovered historical records, this gripping account restores the voices of those accused of witchcraft, and shows how easy accusations grew and spread through entire communities.

First published in 1948, Elsa Morante’s debut novel ‘Lies and Sorcery’ is by turns flamboyant and intense, raging and funny, a celebration of the female imagination, and the power of storytelling itself.

Translated by Jenny McPhee, this is the first unabridged English translation of the electrifying novel of secrets and delusions.

‘Shattered Lands’, for the first time, presents the whole story of how the Indian Empire was unmade; how a single, sprawling dominion became twelve modern nations; how maps were redrawn in boardrooms and on battlefields.

Based on deep archival research, previously untranslated private memoirs and interviews, Sam Dalrymple’s latest book is vivid, compelling, thought-provoking history at its best.

We’re delighted to share the 2026 Booker Prize longlist 📚

This year’s list includes a title very special to us: ‘May We Feed the King’ by Rebecca Perry, winner of the Waterstones Debut Fiction Prize 2026. Dancing between the lives of a historical subject who risks the future of his kingdom and a woman who turns to the past to hide from her present, laced with desire and longing, it’s already a bookseller favourite.

The shortlist will be announced on Tuesday 22nd September, with the winner crowned on Monday 9th November.
