The Samaritans’ listening service is available to those who need it every hour of the day, every day of the year, answering over 3 million calls. Annually. A great many of our calls are received during the night, often a time when people are at their lowest point. Sadly, due to a lack of available listeners, too many of these calls go unanswered. Samaritans know that with more volunteers available at night time, they could support so many more people in distress or crisis.
Whilst Samaritans always welcome applications from people interested in becoming Listening Volunteers, we particularly need volunteers who can be available during our peak night-time hours of need. All our volunteers cover one at least one 3 hour duty a week, including one night duty each month. However, if your work pattern or lifestyle allows you to be available during the night more often, they would love to hear from you.
