I've just completed a new graft on a beautiful William Tarr Double Bass. The previous neck graft was very chunky, the overstand was far to low and the planing angle under the fingerboard was going to make it problematic to fit a C-extension. Aesthetically the flame of the pervious neck graft maple was quite extreme compared the original scroll and the rest of the instrument.
So it was decided to fit a new neck to the original scroll.
his turned out very nicely and blends well with the rest of the bass. I then fitted a new custom C-extension amongst other things that needed doing.
A real privilege to work on such a stunning bass made by one of the most celebrated English bass makers!
