Looking good and congratulations on your 13 year spruce up Johnston Watches of Leigh!

13 years ago, we opened the doors to Johnston Watches and what better way to celebrate than by giving it a little freshen up with a new lick of paint!

Some say 13 is unlucky, but we certainly feel lucky and incredibly proud to have reached another year in business.

Thirteen years of meeting wonderful customers, caring for treasured watches and clocks, and being part of our local community has been a truly special journey.

A huge thank you to all of our lovely customers, both new and longstanding, for your continued support, loyalty and kindness. It really does mean the world to us.

And, of course, a very special thank you to our fantastic watch, clock and jewellery repairers for all your hard work, skill and dedication. We couldn’t do it without you! ⏱️🔧

The brand-new Leigh Folk Festival Signature Concert takes place on Friday 26 June in the beautiful setting of Leigh Library Gardens, celebrating 20 years of local favourites The Long Run, joined by special guests Emerald Hill, Taylor Del Mundo, Rosie Barrett Dulake and Bella Rose Manning.

One of Leigh Road’s true independent treasures closes its doors for the final time this Saturday.

After more than 20 years serving the community, Stuart Palmer is saying goodbye to Time Capsule on Leigh Road as he heads into semi-retirement — though thankfully he’ll still be popping up at antique fairs in the future.

From antiques and jewellery to paintings, curiosities and collectibles, Time Capsule has been a much-loved part of the Leigh-on-Sea independent scene and a shop full of stories, character and hidden gems.

We know so many people across Leigh will have fond memories of browsing Stuart’s fascinating Aladdin’s cave over the years. If you get the chance, do pop in this week to wish Stuart all the best and perhaps pick up a final bargain. ❤️

Shared below is a lovely tribute celebrating Stuart, Time Capsule and over two decades as part of the Leigh Road community.

Today we say a huge thank you to Stuart Palmer and Time Capsule as the doors close for the final time on Leigh Road on Saturday 30 May 2026.

For more than 20 years, Stuart has been part of the fabric of the Leigh Road community, trading from various locations before creating the wonderful treasure trove that so many of us came to know and love at the former ‘Jim’s Joint’ butchers site.

Packed floor to ceiling with antiques, jewellery, paintings, curios, collectibles and hidden gems, Time Capsule has never just been a shop — it’s been an experience. A place where every visit uncovered something different, every conversation came with a story, and everyone was made to feel welcome.

Customers have described Stuart and Time Capsule as:

⭐ “An absolute Aladdin’s cave of treasures”
⭐ “Always something interesting to discover”
⭐ “Friendly, knowledgeable and fair”
⭐ “One of Leigh’s hidden gems”

While this chapter closes, it’s not quite goodbye, as Stuart will still be trading at antique fairs in his semi-retirement. We wish him every happiness and success for the future and thank him for the memories, the stories and the countless treasures he has helped people discover over the years.

The Ten Green Bottles DIY SOS for Sophia. Can you help?

On Wednesday 6th May, our friend Sophia suffered a devastating house fire while she and her family were out.
In moments, they lost almost everything - clothes, belongings, and so many memories. Thankfully everyone is safe, but the shock, heartbreak, and the reality of rebuilding their lives is overwhelming.

Many of you will know Sophia through her work place at TGB (Ten Green Bottles & The Greedy Breakfast).
As our manager, Sophia has spent years bringing joy, warmth, and laughter to our TGB community. She’s been the friendly face, the caring ear, and the person who makes this place feel like home for so many. Now, it’s our turn to support her, she’s the one who needs us.

This isn’t a broken-down car or a picture falling off a wall - this is serious. This has been a life changing challenge that no-one should face without help. This is a moment for a community she has always cared for to come together and help her get her home back for her family. WE WANT TO HELP.

Painters, decorators, carpenters, electricians, or anyone handy who can spare even a little bit to help rebuild what has been lost - your support would mean the world.

It’s not just about money; it’s about people coming together to help a family find their feet again.
The help that has already come from Sophia’s family, neighbours and friends has been overwhelming and she is already very grateful for all your donations.

She is an extremely proud young independent women that naturally doesn’t like to ask for help… so on her behalf as her TGB family, we are asking for her, and the more help we can get for Sophia, the quicker we can get her family back home.
