I'm Still Doing The Thing I Love

When we're young, we rarely realise where our story is going.

We simply live it.

The people around us give us their time, their encouragement, their values and their love. They watch us discover the things that make us happy — and somewhere along the way, those things become part of who we are.

Years pass.

We grow older. Life changes. New people walk beside us. Friendships are made, families grow and memories accumulate.

And still, somehow, we find our way back to the water.

The tackle may have changed. The places may be different. The dreams may have grown bigger.

But that feeling never really left.

And sometimes, standing quietly beside a lake as the sun disappears, you think about the people who helped you get there.

Some can still stand beside you.

Some can't.

But that doesn't mean they're gone from the journey.

They're there in the memories.
In the stories we tell.
In the things they taught us.
And in the person we became.

Perhaps that's what Heritage really is.

Not simply looking backwards.

It's carrying something forward.

So when I stand beside the water today, I'm still making memories. I'm still chasing dreams.

And to the people who helped make me who I am...

HERITAGE 008 — BEST DAD EVER ❤️🎣

When you're young, you don't really understand how precious time is.

You don't know that Dad got up earlier than he needed to, packed the tackle, made the food and probably remembered all the things you forgot.

You just know...

Dad is taking you fishing.

And that's enough.

You remember carrying a little rod that felt enormous. Watching the float, the rod tip or the water as though something might happen at any second.

You remember asking a hundred questions.

And Dad somehow answering every one.

Then eventually comes that moment.

The rod bends.

Dad is beside you.

“Take your time...”

Suddenly the little fish on the end of your line feels like the biggest fish in the lake.

Dad might have caught hundreds before it.

But somehow he makes your fish feel like the most important one he's ever seen.

Years pass.

The rods get better. The fish get bigger. And eventually the little boy standing beside Dad becomes an angler in his own right.

Only then does he begin to understand something.

Dad wasn't just taking him fishing.

He was giving him his time.

And of all the things a father can give his child, sometimes that's the one that becomes priceless.

HERITAGE 007 — GRANDAD & GRANDSON ❤️🎣

Fishing Friends For Life

Before we knew about expensive rods, complicated rigs, PBs or the latest bait...

someone had to show us how to fish.

Sometimes that person was Grandad.

He showed us how to hold a rod. How to put a bait on. How to watch the water. How to sit quietly when nothing was happening — although we probably weren't very good at that bit.

The fish didn't have to be big.

Back then, every fish was a big fish.

And somewhere between those first casts, tangled lines, sandwiches and endless questions, something was being passed from one generation to another.

Not just fishing.

Time. Patience. Friendship. Memories.

Years later, the little boy may have better tackle. He may catch carp Grandad could only have dreamed about.

But he'll never forget the person who first sat beside him and showed him why being beside the water was such a special place to be.

Because sometimes your first fishing partner becomes one you'll carry with you for the rest of your life.

HERITAGE 005 — THREE GENERATIONS

Making Memories

There are some things in fishing that are passed down without anyone ever really noticing.

A Grandad shows his son how to tie a knot.

Years later, that son finds himself showing his own boy exactly the same thing.

The tackle changes.

The lakes change.

The years certainly change.

But somehow, the important things stay exactly the same.

Three generations sitting beside the water.

One remembering how it used to be.

One somewhere in the middle of life's journey.

And one just beginning his.

Perhaps the youngest doesn't realise yet quite how special those ordinary days are.

One day he will.

Because eventually we discover that the people who taught us how to fish also taught us something much more important...

How to make memories.

And long after some of those people are no longer sitting beside us, those memories have a wonderful way of bringing them back.

For a moment, we're beside the water together again.

Grandad. Dad. Grandson.

Father & Son – "Fishing Partners For Life"

Some collections are designed to follow fashion.

This one was designed to preserve memories.

There are some people who teach you far more than how to cast a rod.

They teach patience.

Respect.

Hope.

They teach you that sometimes the best days aren't measured by the size of the fish, but by the time spent together beside the water.

For many of us, that person was our dad.

Heritage 001 was inspired by those early mornings when the world was still quiet, the kettle had just boiled, and every cast felt like the beginning of an adventure.

Whether you caught a fish or not never really mattered.

You were exactly where you wanted to be.

Years pass.

Children grow up.

Parents grow older.

But those moments somehow stay exactly as they were.

A father watching his son cast for the first time.

A son proudly holding the landing net.

A smile that needed no words.

Fishing has always been about much more than fish.

It's about passing something from one generation to the next.

Not just knowledge...

but memories.

That's what this first Heritage design represents.

Because long after we forget the weight of a carp...

we never forget who was standing beside us when we caught it.

The best memories in fishing were never bought... they were lived.

BRITISH CARPERS HERITAGE WEEK

Some collections are designed to follow fashion.
This one was designed to preserve memories.

There comes a moment in every angler's life when they realise the fish they remember most were never necessarily the biggest.

They're the ones caught with your dad.
Your grandad.
Your son or daughter.
Your best mate.
The first over twenty.
The one that got away.

The kettle boiling at sunrise.
The robin that came into the bivvy.
The conversations that lasted longer than the fishing itself.

Those are the moments that stay with us.

That is why I created the British Carpers Heritage Collection.

Not because the world needed another fishing T-shirt...
..but because I wanted to create something that reminds us why we fell in love with carp fishing in the first place.

Every design in this collection tells a different story.

Some will make you smile.
Some may remind you of someone you miss.
Some may take you back to a swim you haven't visited for years.

But every single one was inspired by real memories that anglers share.

This week I'll be sharing the stories behind each Heritage design and the moments that inspired them.

A child rarely remembers the size of their first catch.
