We’d like to share this advice from Mothering Matters.

I hope you are enjoying this glorious weather but we want to gently remind you all about the dangers of covering buggies with muslins or blankets.

Covering the buggy may seem like a simple solution to protect your baby from the sun but this greatly increases your baby’s risk of heatstroke, dehydration and SIDS.

The reduced airflow that covering the buggy causes means the temperature inside the buggy very quickly rises to dangerous levels. One study found that the temperature inside a covered buggy in 22C heat rose to 34C within 30 minutes.

There are buggy shades available but the Lullaby Trust advises not using any of these covers either, instead a buggy parasol and appropriate loose light clothing to cover delicate skin are the best options.
