A big thank you to everyone who popped into our VisionAid Technologies Ltd demo day yesterday at Beacon Centre. It was lovely to see so many people stopping by to say hello, ask questions and explore the range of solutions available to help make everyday tasks a little easier.

“My confidence has grown due to guide dog Isha” 🦮

This recent story from BBC News really caught our attention and with it being National Guide Dog Month what better time to share it and raise some awareness.

Lee Roberts lost his sight in both eyes after a bacterial infection led to sepsis in 2020. After a three year wait, he was matched with Isha, a beautiful labraddodle.

Since meeting Isha, Lee has gone on to learn ballroom dancing, take up jiu-jitsu, climb mountains and even tackled one of Europe's longest zip lines to raise money for our good friends at Guide Dogs for the Blind

“It’s life changing - the independence and how my confidence has grown working with Isha.”

At VisionAid Technologies, we know that everyone's experience of sight loss is different - and so is the way people find greater independence.

For some, a guide dog can be life-changing. For others, it might be assistive technology such as magnification, accessible software, training, or a combination of different solutions.

We're proud to work alongside some fantastic organisations supporting people with sight loss, and as an independent, family-owned UK business, we're passionate about helping people explore the options available to them.

Lee and Isha are a wonderful reminder that sight loss doesn't have to mean giving up on the things you love - sometimes, it can be about finding new ways to keep doing them💛

Another happy customer! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

“I've always found VisionAid lovely to deal with”

Martin has been a customer for some time and recently shared some lovely feedback about his experience.

Martin told us that whenever he calls our enquiries team, he has always found the staff “very nice and pleasant” to deal with. He also appreciated the support he received when Jason and Ellis visited to demonstrate the VoxiVision, which he found very useful. His wife is now using the VoxiVision too and is getting on well with it.

Martin also highlighted our customer service, saying he likes the catalogues we send out and the support we provide with the solutions we sell. He has always found our delivery service helpful too, particularly the tracking information provided.

He was especially pleased with the follow-up he received regarding the cases for his SensePlayer. Although there was a wait from the manufacturer, our team continued to follow up until the cases were received.

Top Trick Tuesday! 💁‍♀️...

Has your BlindShell mobile phone suddenly stopped talking?

Don’t panic! If the voice output has accidentally been turned off, you can switch it back on with a few simple steps:

1️⃣ Make sure your BlindShell is switched on.

2️⃣ Press the top part of the volume button on the left side of the phone to increase the volume. You should hear audio feedback.

3️⃣ Press and hold the Back button (the button with the red slash). Your phone should vibrate and make a sound.

4️⃣ If nothing happens, your phone may be locked. Press and hold the Star key to unlock it.

5️⃣ Press and hold the Left Action button (the white dot in the top left).

6️⃣ Press the Confirmation button (the green round button).

7️⃣ Press the Up arrow once, then press Confirm.

8️⃣ Press the Down arrow once, then press Confirm again.

🎉 And voilà! Your BlindShell should be talking to you again.

💡 Top tip: Save this post so you can easily find these steps if your BlindShell ever goes quiet!

Happy Monday all! We hope you enjoyed a restful weekend!

We're talking all things Braille here today...

We’re delighted to share a fantastic hands-on review of the Activator 40-cell Braille display, written by Jackie Brown after road-testing the device which we supplied to her.

Jackie explored everything from the responsive concave Braille cells and flexible Braille/QWERTY keyboard to its seamless integration with iPhone via the SmartDock.

One feature she particularly enjoyed was how easily she could move between using her iPhone and the Activator’s own built-in functions - making it possible to read, write, make notes and work with files without the experience feeling disjointed.

Her verdict?

💬 “This has to be my favourite display for its concave Braille cells, quality of build, and all round convenience!”

It’s always valuable to hear how assistive technology performs in real-world use, particularly from someone with experience in accessibility and sight loss.

A big thank you to the team from VisionAid Technologies Ltd for visiting ChildVision yesterday and showcasing some of the latest assistive technology available for people with vision impairment.

Access to the right technology can make a world of difference for children returning to school, helping them access learning materials, work more independently, and participate confidently alongside their peers. From innovative magnification solutions to the latest accessibility devices, it was fantastic to see how technology continues to open doors and create opportunities for students with vision impairment.

Thank you for sharing your expertise with our staff, students, families and community. We look forward to working together to help children achieve their full potential. 💙
