These just in: By legendary author John Wyndham, most renowned for his Day of The Triffids, a superb read! Very much ahead of his time with his sci-fi/dystopian novels. These are part of a much larger collection of vintage sci-fi publications. At £3 each here in the shop they are not to be missed!

Call me opportunist but I am going to unashamedly promote my weekend job via here. Bookseller by day, DJ by night, and I know a lot of my customers are into the music scene around our amazing town! So, this Saturday I'll be hosting the Summer Party at the Corn Exchange. Kicking off at 7.30 with Music Bingo (if you've never tried it I assure you it's fun). After that we have The 80’s Gold Man with a live performance of some great hits from that era. Then from 10 till midnight it's me on the decks with more 80s dance, 90s Bangers, Club Anthems & more..

Tickets are available via Ticketsource (link below), or if you want to save the booking fee then just either drop into the Corn Exchange during the daytime or give them a call on 01480 496454. Free glass of Pimm's with every ticket!

You can pay on the door of course but it would help the organisers immensely if you get tickets as they will then know how much Pimm's to order! Hope to see you there...

So, as I have a lot of followers on FB for the Bookshop I'm going to give a shameless plug for something else. Some of you will already know, but I don't confine myself to selling books: most weekends you will see me DJing in our fantastic local pubs, especially The Royal Oak and Nelson's Head. And this coming Saturday I'm doing the Silent Disco for The Corn Exchange. If you've never been to one before or want to know how it works you get a pair of headphones at the door and choose yourself between 3 different music channels: pop/disco (which is a mixture of 80s, 90s & 2000 dance music), soul & Motown, plus rock/metal. I'll even put a fourth channel on in the room so it's not actually silent. The last one back in February was fab. I would love to see lots of lovely people there. It's a very reasonable ticket price and although you can pay on the door it would help greatly if you booked online. That way we can see how many people to expect on the night and, very importantly, how much b**r to order! Hope to see you there!

I just finished this lovely vintage crime novel. Set in the fictional Fisher College, Cambridge in 1939. The original version was published in 1945 (so it does include some political incorrectness!). I can never resist a detective novel that includes a map or plan, and this book has one! And so nice to see plenty references to our local area, Cambridge street names, a visit to Newmarket. It even mentions St Ives. And of course a very civilised murder...
