One of my favourite conversations this week…

Them: “I wish you didn’t have a window.”

Me, immediately thinking… Oh no, they hate it.

Them: “Because it always looks so lovely and I end up coming in and buying something.”

😂😂😂

I can’t tell you how many people come into the shop and say…

“I haven’t got a clue where to start.”

So I thought we’d start at the very beginning.

Every week I’m going to share one simple interiors tip. No fancy design jargon. No rules. Just the sort of advice I’d give if you wandered into the shop and said, “Help… my house is a bit of a mishmash.”

First things first…

Step away from the shopping basket. 😂

(I know… I’m the worst person to be saying that.)

Before you buy another cushion, vase or lamp because Instagram made you do it, let’s work out what you actually like.

Because one minute Pinterest has you convinced you live in a cosy cottage with an Aga and a Labrador called Dave…

…then Instagram throws a gorgeous modern home at you and suddenly you’re decluttering everything you own.

Five minutes later you’re pricing up a roll-top bath and wondering if you could paint every wall dark green.

It’s a rollercoaster. We’ve all done it.

So here’s your mission this week…

Don’t buy anything.

Just save photos of rooms that make you stop scrolling.

Then at the end of the week, stick the kettle on and have a proper nosy through them.

Do the same colours keep popping up?

Do you always save dark moody rooms? Or light airy ones?

Wood? Velvet? Brass? Colour? Neutrals?

I bet you’ll start spotting a pattern.

We all have our own style. Sometimes we just need to stop listening to everyone else long enough to figure out what it is.

The aim isn’t to copy someone else’s home. It’s to create one that feels like you.

It’s chunky.
It’s got loads of texture.
And it doesn’t apologise for taking up space… which, quite frankly, is something we should all aspire to.

Stick it in the middle of a dining table, on a kitchen island or a big console and suddenly it looks like you’ve got your life together.

Add some stems (these are in the sale £6 each) .

I’m completely obsessed.

Sometimes one piece is all a room needs, and this is definitely one

A customer said to me,

“I follow you on social media and it’s so refreshing to see a business owner be so honest.”

I laughed and replied,

“I’m probably a bit too honest sometimes.”

She smiled and said,

No… that’s why people want to come in. I listen to your stories when I get into bed, they make me laugh 🤣

I’ve thought about that conversation ever since.

I sometimes wonder if I should be a bit more polished. Share less. Pretend I’ve got everything under control.

The reality?

I don’t.

Some days the shop is busy, some days it’s quiet. Some weeks I feel like I know exactly what I’m doing, and other weeks I’m making it up as I go.

I share the wins, the wobbles, the chaos, the excitement and occasionally the fact I’ve worn the same dress three days in a row because it’s the only thing that isn’t sticking to me in this heat. 😂

Maybe that’s why people connect with Rebel & Ashby.

Not because everything is perfect, but because it’s real.

So thank you for following along, popping into the shop, cheering me on and reminding me that being myself is enough.

I promise to keep being honest… even if I do overshare sometimes. 💛
