It’s been a busy day today in my ‘other’ day job as a farm animal vet!
Farm24 celebrates everything and everyone in agriculture over 24hours and it’s running today.
I have been detecting pregnancies in dairy heifers with my portable ultrasound machine. Some were bred by Artificial Insemination (AI), whilst others had been bred by the bull.

Calves in progress…!🐂🐂
We had a really successful morning ultrasound scanning the cows to see if they were in calf.
The bulls Gordon (Speckle Park), Toby (Limousin) and A Team (Hereford) have done a great job- all the cows and heifers are in calf!🥳 (4 are very early in calf so we shall recheck them next month).
741 who had twins this year is having twins again!

Holiday…..ish 🐄🏆🥇
You might have noticed we’ve been quiet for the last week as we’ve had a well earned rest 🏖️
Alright, it wasn’t restful but it was fun and great to see so many friends.
Every year we make the pilgrimage to the Great Yorkshire Show with Vicky being the Chief Dairy Cattle Steward, Mike being a Beef Cattle Ring Steward and Hector being top tiny toddler.
There was some phenomenal cows competing and it was wonderful to see so many people passionate about farming and rural life.

Hay!🌱
Had to bring the old hay Bob into service as the ‘new’ old Tedder has lost a wheel!
Thankfully Hector was on hand to inspect the hay tines and make sure they were all present for maximum grass fluffing!
