I made this little number a few weeks ago... Catherine IV is an elegant, and universally flattering shape, in rich and delicate tones of purple; trimmed with beautiful corded lace and amazing velvet and voile lilies.

I never really believed in the phrase 'less is more'... but sometimes it's good to be proved wrong.

Just occasionally, creators have "magic" moments... times when everything just comes together to create visual perfection. This commission was one of those moments. Made for a client to wear to her son's wedding, with a classic Polkadot Hobbs dress; when I delivered this hat, and she came downstairs in the full ensemble, both her husband and I were lost for words... she looked 'Hollywood' perfect. Like she'd just stepped out of the silverscreen. Somewhere between Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady's infamous Ascot scene, and Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman's classic brown Polkadot ensemble... with a little of Wizard Of Oz emerald city magic.

A hat has the power to do this... transform an outfit from elegant to extraordinary. And that's why I love creating...

Wedding season is a go-go, which means a return to millinery work (oh, how I've missed it!)... this little beauty, adorned with embroidered flowers to match the dress (swipe for photo), was worn to a wedding yesterday. A floral, frothy concoction 🌹🎀🪷🎀🌸🎀🌼🎀🌺

Today, Catherine, flew off to Texas... since creating this style, I have found it to be timeless and incredibly popular for custom orders; but have only ever made a few "off the peg" pieces in this design. I've always tended towards pastel colours, but wonder what you think would work well for this design? Something bolder?

This commission called for a stripped back take on one of my designs... as a "more is more" girl, this was a challenge, but I really love it. Such a modern take on millinery. And the red is phenomenal.
