Last week at Teesside Crown Court a 46-year-old Guisborough man was jailed for 27 months for burgling a house in the town’s Park Lane at the end of May this year ⚖️
👮🏼♀️ Despite Mark Bunney denying he stole a wallet containing cash, bank cards and a driving licence, as well as a mobile phone, a guitar and some binoculars from the address, through their extensive enquiries Redcar & Cleveland CID were able to charge him with burglary and he was sentenced on 11th December.
The sentencing comes as Cleveland Police’s latest figures reveal there have been almost 900 fewer victims of burglary across Cleveland in the last 12 months.
In the 12 months up to December 2024, residential burglaries have remained low across the force area with over a 22% drop in reports - and Redcar and Cleveland seeing a reduction of 26%
Redcar CID's Detective Chief Inspector Jon Hagen, who is force lead on burglary, said: “Residential burglary can have a devastating impact on victims; it is intrusive, traumatic and can have lasting effects.
“We know that it’s good news that residential burglaries have fallen across Redcar & Cleveland.
"Nevertheless we are not complacent and the proactive work we've seen from our officers will continue - supported by our partner agencies and by residents themselves.
"We are determined to do all we can to identify offenders and bring those responsible before the courts to answer for their crimes."
