The business was founded by the late Godfrey Tyers and Patricia Tyers. The impetus for the establishment came from Godfrey's interest in literature, academia and music books and from Patricia's previous experience working with second hand books. Following an initial library buy of ten thousand books, the business was set up in Belvoir Street, Leicester. In 1987 the

business relocated to St. The shop is situated in the shadow of the church of St. Mary the Virgin, hence the title of "St. Mary's Books". Over the years the business developed and grew. It is now run jointly by Patricia Tyers & Naomi Ritchie (nee Tyers). At present we hold a stock of approximately 50,000 volumes to which we are continually adding new items. Our fields of interest are very wide and quality books on any subject are never refused. Our major specialist areas are as follows:

Children's Books - Fine, illustrated volumes including Rackham and Dulac. Country/ Rural Pursuits - Hunting, Shooting, Fishing, Field Sports 'BB' (Denys Watkins Pitchford). Church - Church Adornment, Church Art, Stained Glass, Organ Building, Bell Ringing etc. Wisden Cricketers' Almanacks. St Mary's Books is incredibly proud to present this limited edition two-volume set of "Gulliver's Travels" by Jonathan Swift. Published by the Cresset Press in 1930, this copy is number 140 out of 195, and is a particularly well-preserved example.
