✨ What would you love to make? ✨

One of the joys of sewing is being able to create something that feels like you.

These are a few of my own handmade creations, worn out and about — because handmade clothes are not just for the sewing room, they are for real life. 🌿🧵

My current beginners have already proved just how much can be achieved with gentle guidance, a bit of patience, and a willingness to have a go. They started with the basics, and now they are finishing projects they can be really proud of — from beach wrap-around trousers to children’s clothing and handmade accessories.

My next Beginners Sewing Course starts Tuesday 30 June at Susan’s House.

You do not need any experience. We start gently, build confidence step by step, and then you move on to a project of your choice.

I am so proud of Jess! ✨

In week 4 of the beginners sewing course, Jess finished her beautiful beach wraparound trousers — and she made them in just two sessions.

From learning the basics of using the machine to creating something she can actually wear, it has been wonderful to watch her confidence grow.

These trousers are perfect for sunny days, holidays and relaxed summer dressing — and how lovely is that bright spotty fabric?

For weeks 5 and 6, Jess is now moving on to making something very special: a romper suit for her baby. I can’t wait to see it come together.

✨ New 6-Week Beginners Sewing Course at Susan’s House ✨
Starting Tuesday 30 June at 7pm

Would you love to learn to sew but feel unsure where to begin?

This relaxed beginners course will gently guide you step by step, helping you build confidence with a sewing machine in a small, friendly group.

In the first 2 weeks, we will cover the basics, including:

🧵 threading the machine
🧵 winding and inserting a bobbin
🧵 using straight stitch, zigzag and overedge stitch
🧵 buttonholes, zips and simple sewing techniques
🧵 basic machine care

For the next 4 weeks, you’ll work on a project of your choice, with guidance and support throughout.

Machines and materials are supplied, but you are very welcome to bring your own machine if you would like to learn on it.

This course is perfect for complete beginners or anyone who has lost confidence and would like to start again.

✨ Week 3 at Susan’s House – Project Week ✨

This week on the beginners sewing course, everyone has been working on their own individual projects, and it has been such a joy to see their confidence growing.

We’ve had:

🧵 a little girl’s dress
🧵 a sewing bag and kit
🧵 wraparound trousers for the beach

It’s so lovely seeing each person move from learning the basics to creating something personal and practical of their own.

One of the nicest parts of the course is that although everyone is learning together, each project is a little different — which makes it feel creative, relaxed and very special.

I’m so proud of how well everyone is doing.

✨ Week 3 of the Beginners Sewing Course at Susan’s House ✨

Tonight the workstations are all set up, the refreshments are ready, and it’s project week — one of my favourite parts of the course.

After spending the first couple of weeks building confidence with the sewing machines, threading, stitching, seams and basic techniques, everyone is now starting their own chosen project.

This evening we have:

🧵 A sewing kit bag with accessories
🧵 A little girl’s dress
🧵 A pair of wrap-around beach trousers

I love seeing each person’s confidence grow and watching their ideas start to come to life. This is exactly what Susan’s House is about — learning step by step in a relaxed, friendly space, with plenty of encouragement along the way.

Can’t wait to see these projects develop over the next few weeks.

✨ New Beginners Sewing Course Launching Tuesday 30 June ✨

I’m so pleased to be opening bookings for another Beginners Sewing Course at Susan’s House.

The current course has been going so well, and it has been such a joy to see confidence growing week by week, so it feels like the perfect time to launch the next one.

This will be a cosy, small-group course for beginners, held in my home studio, with plenty of encouragement and gentle step-by-step guidance. It’s ideal if you’ve always wanted to learn to sew but didn’t know where to start, or if you’d like to build your confidence in a relaxed and friendly setting.

This week is project week, and Angie is absolutely smashing it.

She’s started making some gorgeous wraparound beach trousers — perfect for this beautiful sunshine. It’s so lovely watching her confidence grow each week, from learning the basics to now creating something she’ll actually be able to wear.

Next week we’ll be finishing the trousers and starting a matching top — I can’t wait to see the full outfit come together.
