We thought we'd let you in on one of the less mysterious parts of a Lost and Bound Blind Date with a Book…

The packaging! 👀

Once we've chosen your mystery book, we wrap it in recyclable kraft paper. 🎁

Because obviously, we can't just put a naked book in a box and call it a Blind Date. 😂

We then choose a box that's the appropriate size for your order.

Not a massive box with one tiny book rattling around inside it.

Not three boxes inside another box for absolutely no reason.

Just the right size we can manage. 📦

We then add crinkle paper to help protect your book and any other goodies that might be included in your Blind Date.

Because whilst we want your book to arrive looking mysterious…

We also want it to arrive in one piece. 😂📚

And we're always conscious of the amount of packaging we're using.

📚💷 LET'S TALK ABOUT THE COST OF A BLIND DATE… 💷📚

We often get asked how we keep our Blind Dates with a Book reasonably priced.

Well, there's a little bit more that goes into them than just sticking a book in some wrapping paper. 😂

Our books already have a cost.

📖 Paperback books start from around £1
📕 Hardbacks cost £2 or more

Then there's the wrapping, packaging, extras, postage, time spent choosing the right book for you… and all the other little bits that somehow add up when you're running a small business.

But we don't want our Blind Dates to be ridiculously expensive.

The whole idea started because we wanted people to be able to discover a book they might never have picked for themselves — without having to spend a fortune doing it.

So we work hard to keep our prices as reasonable as we can, while still covering our costs and making sure Lost and Bound can keep going.

And because our books are pre-loved, you're also giving a book another chance to be read rather than potentially ending up in landfill. ♻️📚

So when you buy a Blind Date from us, you're getting:

☕📚 HAPPY INTERNATIONAL COFFEE DAY! 📚☕

Because apparently we needed an official day to celebrate something many of us couldn't function without. 😂

And what better way to celebrate at Lost and Bound than with coffee AND books?

🌼📚 **YOUR SEPTEMBER BLIND DATE HAS A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR THE BEES…** 🐝🦋

Our monthly Blind Dates with a Book aren't just about discovering a new book.

Each month, we like to add a little something extra — and this month, that means **wildflower seed bombs!** 🌼

They’re designed to attract **bees, butterflies and other pollinators** to your garden, giving them a little helping hand while adding some colour too. 🐝🦋🌸

And September is actually a rather lovely time of year for something else…

**Gathering seeds!** 🌱

We recently came across a post from someone who had received a Blind Date with a Book from another business, and unfortunately, the book they received didn't quite match the description.

It was also **book 3 in a series** and couldn't really be read as a standalone.

And it got us thinking…

**This is something we take seriously at Lost and Bound.** ❤️

When you order one of our Blind Dates, we choose the book based on the description and genre you've selected.

And yes, you **might receive a book that is part of a series**.

BUT…

📚 **It must be readable as a standalone book.**

We're not going to send you Book 3 of a 7-book saga where you're expected to somehow know who Dave, Susan and the mysterious talking dragon are. 😂

We want your Blind Date to be a surprise — **not homework.**

So while we can't tell you exactly which book you'll receive (because that would rather ruin the whole *blind* part 👀), we do make sure it fits what you've ordered and can be enjoyed on its own.

📚 **So… why did I set up Lost and Bound?** 📚

Honestly?

**It came to me at about 2am one Night.**

Not a carefully researched business plan.
Not a five-year strategy.
Not a *“I’ve identified a gap in the market”* moment. 😂

Just a random idea.

Years ago, I’d had a **Blind Date with a Book from Waitrose** and absolutely loved the concept. Then, for years afterwards, I didn’t really see them anywhere.

So one night, at approximately 2am, my brain went:

**“You know what? We should do that.”**

And Lost and Bound was born. 😂

Fast forward a few years and now it feels like everyone is doing Blind Dates with Books!

So what makes **us** different?

Well… we don't do gimmicks.

You won't receive a Blind Date from us and open it to find 17 bookmarks, three pens, a notebook, a badge, a keyring and a motivational quote about reading. 😂

You get **a book**.

Okay, I do give you **one bookmark**. I'm not completely unreasonable. 😂

We also put a HUGE emphasis on being **eco-friendly, sustainable and recyclable**.

From the books we use to the packaging we choose, we're constantly looking at how we can reduce waste and make better choices.

That's something I'm genuinely proud of. 🌱📚

And finally, when you buy from Lost and Bound, you're supporting a **disabled entrepreneur**.

That is probably the one and only time I'm going to mention that because I don't really see myself that way.

I see myself as someone who had a random idea at 2am, decided to give it a go and somehow turned it into a business. 😂

But it is still important to me that people know where their money is going and who they're supporting.
