Sweeter by Nature confections are treats - but made as good for you as treats can be. I have spent a lot of time over the past couple of years exploring recipes that tick the box for yumminess whist including nutrient dense ingredients and no uneccesary added extras. I had far surpassed the time of breastfeeding and sleep deprivation being valid excuses for eating anything I fancied before I deter
mined to address my physical state. I wanted to remedy my lethargic mid afternoon slumps and if I could positively affect my 'mum tum', all the better! I had been absorbing information about plant-based diets, the impact of refined sugars on our bodies' glucose levels and about eating the right mix of foods including 'good' fats to keep us sustained. I decided to cut out refined sugar from my diet and in my reading, I became aware of refined sugar free, often plant based, often gluten and dairy free sweet treats that can be created. I have built up a huge library of recipes and ideas and having experimented with a lot of these, I have found my favourites and am excited to continue experimenting with all the ingredients nature has to offer us. Chocolate is simply delicious and so beneficial to our bodies in this form. With it's anti-inflamatory properties and high levels of magnesium and iron, there can be benefits for heart health, cholesterol, energies and mood. If you have something healthy and delicious to reach for in your moments of need, you won't grab the processed snacks with empty calories. I discovered, with surprise, that I no longer craved such highly processed sugary treats. I snack less, my energy levels are more stable throughout the day (and pleasingly also through the monthly cycle -with a much less dramatic dip in mood). Not only are there no refined products in my treats, but the mix of ingredients I use is balanced and totally nourishing. I can have my cake - and eat it! And feel good afterwards!
