Friday was a perfect firing day, not to hot. Got an early start 8.00am. This was a combination firing of soda then finish off on salt. It was a really relaxing proses in great weather. Had a glass of beer when I got home. That’s two big firings this week towards the final show. &soda

Yesterday was cross draft soda firing day, long day over 12 hours, hot and sweaty. Today packing big soda with a different student. This one will be a combination of soda and salt. 8.00am start again could be a 12 hour or more firing again, hopefully the weather is not to hot. This is a very intense time of year, as the student of Clay College work towards their final show. Hopefully another great show of great pots. This cohort of students will hopefully join the success of our previous students in becoming a beacon of high quality ideas and craftsmanship in a sea of mediocre pottery.
98% of or past students are still out there as makers, you see them at the shows and the standard of work sticks out by a mile. I feel my life’s work as a tutor as really born fruit with my work and a great team at ClayCollege.

It’s firing Friday again, soda today. 7.30am start, soda in at about 2.30pm. You can see the different styles of application. It’s just gone 6.30 pm and we are soaking until all cone 11s are down.

Well it’s been three long days at ClayCollege. I have run a salt glaze work shop, Saturday glaze and place the pots in the kiln, lots of wading to be done. Sunday was the firing. Started at about 9.00am started reducing at about 1020oc started salting at about 1220oc delivered three Kg of salt waited for kiln to reach 1280oc soaked out untill cone 11 was down there was only a few degrees difference between top and bottom of the kiln. Called the firing at 5.30pm. We returned Monday morning waited for the kiln to cool, removed some of the bricks from the top of the door and returned after lunch to unpack these are the results.

Yes it’s true, a celebrity version of the Throw Down. Great fun to work on, and got to meet Lisa Tarbuck. But more complicated developing projects for none potters.

Firing today with students working on their final project, started at 8am finished by 8pm. This cross draft kiln they build specifically for soda firing delivered in a few different ways. Won’t get the results until Monday.
