Children with food allergies don’t miss school because they don’t care about learning. They miss school when they don’t feel safe and supported.
Right now, thousands of children with food allergies are being excluded, not by choice, but by risk. By systems that fail to protect them.
Our new national attendance survey shows:
✖️70% of allergic children have missed school because of their food allergy.
✖️63% say food allergies negatively affect their child’s education.
✖️1 in 3 parents have considered home schooling because they don’t feel schools can keep their child safe.
This is not a parenting issue.
This is not a child issue.
This is a SAFETY issue.
Laurie was nine when his school failed to take his food allergies seriously. He was fed his allergen and the school did not enforce their allergy policy. He has missed 122 days of school. His education has been interrupted, not by illness, but by inaction. When he moved to a new school that took food allergies seriously, everything changed and last term he achieved 100% attendance! ⭐️
This is the power of food allergy safe schools.
No child should be excluded from education because of food allergies. No parent should live in fear when they drop their child at the school gate.
With the Children’s Wellbeing and School’s Bill in its final stages, Natasha’s Foundation is demanding better. This is a critical moment to ensure the law truly empowers, includes, and protects children and young people with food allergies.
💜 Natasha’s Foundation is helping schools get this right through Allergy School. FREE, practical resources designed to help teachers create safe, inclusive environments for children with food allergies.
