Back to school today and Autumn is coming. I managed to pick a few flowers the other day to take to some friends. I'm loving all the Autumn colours. Most of my dahlias are still yet to flower 🙁 Perhaps they might make a show towards the end of the month 🤞

After a summer of extreme dry weather and heat the water butts have been filling up but to be much more resilient I really need to invest in some much bigger water storage if we can't rely on more consistent rain patterns.

I've already had to bail 2 of these out twice but it's meant I can soak my polytunnel soil with lovely fresh rainwater everyday to try and increase the moisture levels in the soil. Hooray for the rain though ☔☔☔

I cut a few bits yesterday and spent a little bit of time putting together a little bowl arrangement this morning using a flower frog and the wire support lid.

I love creating these arrangements using the little bits I can find in the garden 😍

I was hoping there would be more flowers to share by now but the lack of rain and extreme heat have taken its toll on the garden. I'm beginning to wonder if the dahlias will flower at all at this point.

It's quite disheartening when you've spent a lot of time germinating seeds and then tending to tiny seedlings, putting them in the ground and for most of them not to really grow 🙁 I really am going to have to rethink what's possible with the changing climate.

I did manage to pick these flowers for my neighbour and I really must sow more Pro cut white sunflowers next year as they are gorgeous 😍 Here's hoping for a good amount of rain soon and perhaps some flowers come September 🤞

The dry, hot weather has made many plants go to seed very quickly and also be ready to dry. I've tried saving as many of the seeds as I can and picked quite a lot of flowers which are drying in my shed.

Not all seeds will come true, particularly if they are F1 types as they won't grow the same. Also cross pollination affects how the plant grows again but this means you can get some interesting varieties.

The benefit of saving your seeds means you don't need to spend money buying more seeds and you tend to grow stronger plants as they will be adapted to your conditions so it's definitely something worth trying 😊

In the polytunnel today. Everything is growing pretty well in here and I can just about get away with watering every other day. Lots of tomatoes, peppers, chillies, basil and some watermelon! On the other side chrysanthemum, dahlias grown from seed, zinnias and celosia. Also some indigo to try dying and self seeded amaranthus. Sweet peas are now going to seed so I'll get those out soon.The close planting helps to stop the soil drying out 😊

I've really used the space to a maximum!
