This we are delighted to announce another great free author event, coming up in September.

Discover the fascinating story of Marie, a sixteenth-century Scottish woman whose secret love poetry was discovered, hidden in a manuscript.

Join historian, translator and author Ashley Douglas, to hear of her astonishing discovery of the secret love poems of Marie Maitland, now being hailed as one of Scotland's earliest le***an poets. From mysterious clues hidden in plain sight, Ashley has revealed for the first time a hidden story of love and bravery in the harsh climate of post-Reformation Scotland. Now being published as "In My Own Hand" , Ashley will be here to tell us more about this intriguing secret aspect of Scotland's history.

A fascinating story, we are delighted to be hosting Ashley in the Scottish Borders.

Good morning! Kat is in today and the bookshop is full to the brim with great new books! Just in, the reissue of Booker prize winner James Kelman’s Kieron Smith, boy - Saltire and Scottish Arts Council book of the year in 2008/9. We also have Philip Fracassi’s Gothic - a delirious horror with blood-red edge.
Fiona Robertson’s Stone Lands is a story of grief and rediscovery, of wellbeing and empowerment through Britain’s ancient landscape of standing stones. Beautiful. Pop in and see what’s new today.

Morning! Jings, what a great book group night last night. This month’s book has been the newly reprinted A Working Mother, part of a new series by Scottish author Agnes Owens whose works have been perhaps a little overlooked since the 90s. A great discussion last night, helped enormously by the sweet things courtesy of our lovely friends Birlinn 😊 We enjoyed this challenging, intriguing novella and will all be reading more of her writing from this great new series.
