How time fly’s, it was 43 years ago I bought C.A. Rookes Wine Merchants. It had changed ownership twice since Christopher Albert Rookes died, and we slowly rebuilt the reputation of Stratford’s Wine Merchant. We worked hard, and latterly with the increase of competition from the supermarkets and large wine companies from London and abroad, it became a 24/7 working week. We survived, and I sold the company in 2021 to an enthusiastic young man. Sadly, there seems to be no premises these days in this changing world of trading. At least we have some very happy memories, of great customers and a range of wines & spirits not available elsewhere.
