We just love our Pottery Introduction Days here at the studio. A day to share what we love… clay! We spend a whole day with students helping them to get creative with clay, a chance for them to take time for themselves, learn new skills, start to discover throwing on the wheel and handbuild with clay and it can ignite a curiosity and creative desire to join us to continue learning and developing their own clay skills and confidence.
We had a great Pottery Introduction Day this week, joined by a wonderful group of students who really got into their creative side and made some amazing pots , plates and bowls - a day of celebration.

Behind the Scenes Tuesday!
Looking after all the studio materials is a full time job. Whilst recycling and preparing clay takes up a large part of the week, looking after the other materials is just as important. I’m stirring up blue slip here - slip is liquid clay with a coloured pigment, it is a luscious material which comes in a variety of colours. It’s a great decorating material which can be used on leather hard clay in a variety of ways - adding surface colour, slip trailed and texture just to name a few. Slip needs to be kept at an optimum consistency, so needs regular stirring, adding water if necessary to keep it in a fluid state. We’re getting them ready for our next workshop, our Pottery Introduction Day on Friday, students can use a full range of slips to decorate their thrown and handbuilt pots.
