"Creative space" for

Happy Friday friends 😊 I did have plans for a speedy video in true Kirsty and Phil's 'Love it or list it' styley (if you know you know) to show you the crazy amount of work / life transformation my kitchen table goes through on an average weekday. But, I've had a poorly one at home for the last couple of days so any plans for anything at all have gone out the window. Instead I thought I'd share a couple of pics taken over the summer of a couple of my creative work spaces. Basically I don't have a dedicated work space (yet - it's the dream), if I'm making I'm at the kitchen table, if I'm planning, designing, admin-ing and it's not too cold I like to curl up in our sunroom (my parents call it the conservatory - we call lit a lean-to! 😂) Whichever, I love it 🧡

"Recharge" is today's prompt for . And I've been struggling with it (which is probably saying something) 😉

What recharges me?
Stopping. Having my phone switched off. Not "doing" at home and not thinking about work. Being completely present and content in the moment. If I get to be on my own (rare joy) - a bath and a book are all I need. Time spent with friends and family just sitting and talking, not doing also recharges me. And above all SLEEP 🙌 Nothing very surprising, nothing very rock n roll but yet it's gold dust and weirdly hard to obtain.

Really enjoying this book at the moment. I had never heard of the term Wabi Sabi but I find myself nodding along and feeling like it's describing how I try to live my life. Would recommend it.

Design, test, tweak, repeat...

Each time I create a new design or want to try a different fabric, technique or tweak, it involves A LOT of trial and error, time and testing before either a) feeling happy with the end product or b) proving that it won't work a particular way 🤷🏼‍♀️

It wasn't a wild one, but for me this morning started with a swim. I try to swim two mornings a week before the school run. Making myself get out of bed is the hardest part but once I'm out of the front door I already know it will make me feel great. I absolutely loved having a slow, ritualistic morning routine during lockdown and my days were much better for it, but it's been too much to maintain with the fuller, faster pace of "normal" life. No two mornings look the same for me, a lot depends on what school/work/life looks like for us as a household on any given day but once the school run is done I try to get some fresh air and then get down to work, It doesn't matter if I'm sewing, designing or doing admin, because I work from the kitchen table the downstairs of the house gets a once over so I can concentrate without seeing a pile of washing/washing up. Then the Sonos, kettle and diffuser goes on and I'm (🤞) in the Joiful zone!

Sharing a little 'snippet' with you for day 3.

This is the inside of one of our oatmeal hot water bottle covers, the bit you don't get to see. This stitching gorgeousness against the fluffy fleece for me is just 👌 The quality of the inside is just as important as the outside.

Hi 👋 day 2 is all about me! 🙈 I'm Beth and this is how you'll typically find me, in leggings and a poncho and hopefully outdoors (but not posing for a photo!) Joiful Designs is a one woman band, I'm the designer, maker, photographer, web designer, admin, packer, the list goes on!... I'm based in a small village just outside Stratford Upon Avon and run the business from my kitchen table.
