The pottery is now only accepting bookings from pottery members. Apologies to non-members, we just got too busy! If we open the membership list again we will put a message on Facebook - but that is unlikely to happen very soon.

Only a few days left to get on the pottery membership list! Just give us your email address and subscribe to our monthly newsletter and you will automatically become a member. As a member you will be able to continue to book activities at the pottery (although no more wheel lessons if you're not already on the list). But if you have a voucher, don't worry, it will still be honoured.

End of an era! Big news! Anne is retiring from the pottery. She has a few more wheel lessons to do and then she will skip away into the garden/golf course/curling rink/rugby ground! Although there will be no more wheel lessons after Anne has made good on her promises, we are remaining open - but changing to a members only structure. This will mean no new customers - but plenty of space for our existing customers. Everyone who has subscribed to our newsletter will automatically become a member so if you aren’t on the mailing list, please send us your email address as soon as possible and that will ensure your membership number so you can continue to book handbuilding activities or studio time or painting on ready made. Membership is free of cost, and you will not be obliged to book any activities, it just ensures that you can do so if you want. We are only leaving the membership door open for a short while and after that pottery activities will only be available to members and we will not accept new applications for membership. So if you are not already on the mailing list, please act quickly! If you have a gift voucher we are definitely going to honour them, so don’t panic about that!

Congratulations to Rachel and her daughter Fiona for this amazing hobbit house. It is destined to be a lampstand as will be the fish lampstand you can see in the distance.

We want to employ someone for one hour a week to help with our clay recycling. You do not need to have experience of "wedging" and rehydrating clay as we will give full tuition. However, you do need a character that can give attention to detail as poorly wedged clay creates air pockets in the clay that can blow up in the kiln.

You will need to be reasonably physically fit as wedging requires some upper body strength and is done standing up - it's similar to kneading bread although not the same. The job also involves some lifting of bags of clay. Click on this link for a video demonstrating wedging https://youtu.be/DPSfQQUk11Q?si=F8_eRFrZ9S2elham. We will negotiate your timetable - a regular evening or a daytime slot will be possible but it must be when customers are not in the studio as wedging can be noisy. We will pay £12.50 per hour, (so £50 per four weeks) for a six month contract. You will be self employed and liable for your own tax. Alternatively we will swap one hour of wedging for a 90min studio session at the pottery. Let us know about yourself and why you're interested - by email or facebook messenger - before Thursday (14th March) and we will shortlist and interview soon after.

Our customer Alison makes all her pottery at home using her own clay and glaze. She fires everything in our kiln so we get the fun of being surprised with a new box of treasure each time she comes. These were the most recent out of the kiln. Alison sells in a shop in Kirkintilloch. Here's the link. https://g.co/kgs/SqMn6hu

This is our customer Hilary's pot made during studio time. Apart from the lovely glaze, the thing to notice is the lid. Lids are difficult to make - and this one fits which is no mean feat. The two smaller photos haven't captured the colour properly but you can see the lid really well! Beautiful glaze and a lid that fits. Well done Hilary!

Lots of customers complemented the shape of these pots when they were in the studio waiting to be glazed, so I knew everyone would want to see the finished results. Lindsay must be delighted with how they came out. She has sent us a note of the many layers of glaze she used so that anyone who wants to try to replicate these colours can have a go. Lindsay is a regular studio time potter and uses our little shimpo wheel. Well done Lindsay!

Look at this quirky dish made by hand by our customer Sarah in studio time. The underglaze colours are fantastic, and we smiled every time we saw it in the studio! Makes you want to go dip dumplings doesn't it!

Sky, Danielle and Joy came to the pottery to do a taster session a few weeks ago and came back to glaze last week. We can only fit two people in to have a go on the wheel in one taster session so Joy's photo is the one without a pot. Sky's photo is the one with the tree - it was particularly challenging to paint but was worth the effort as it's come out so well. Well done to all three for making such lovely pottery!

Congratulations to our customer Sally Nicol on these beautiful kelpies. Sally made them at home (our clay at home scheme includes the cost of the first firing) and then glazed them in the studio during 'studio time'. They are even more stunning in real life than in the photos.
