Fireside Bookshop are sorry to announce we will no longer be offering security updates or tech support for any of our books. You will still be able to read them, gift them, put them on a shelf, pass them on to your kids or grandkids, learn from them, lend them to a friend, fold the corner over to keep your place, explore new worlds and realities, use them to impress your new girlfriend, prop up a wonky coffee table or even recycle them.

The move means owners of Kindles released before 2013 will be unable to download new e-books.

Lovely crisp winter weather and a busy old day here at Fireside Bookshop. Looks like more rain tomorrow so you might want to stay at home with a good book, in which case you've got one hour and ten minutes to get down here and find one, better run!

A co-headline show presented by Stroud's independent book store Fireside Bookshop...

Emma Tricca
Championed by John Renbourn and Odetta at the start of her career, and subsequently encouraged by Jane Weaver and Andy Votel who would release her first two records (Minor White and Relic) songwriter/guitarist Emma Tricca's unique style has often been compared to a meld of Greenwich Village icons Nico and Patti Smith.

For her most recent collection Aspirin Sun, Emma teamed up again with Jason Victor (The Dream Syndicate) and Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) to conjure an alluringly psychedelic sound redolent of 70’s folk-rock yet totally distinctive.

She’s toured extensively with Jane Weaver, Nick Mason (Saucerful of Secrets band), and Robyn Hitchcock, and notably collaborated with Judy Collins, Bridget St John, Jesse Chandler (Mercury Rev, Midlake) among others. BBC6 presenters Guy Garvey and Gideon Coe have been loyal supporters alongside USA stations - WFMU and WFUV - and print media such as Mojo, Uncut, Record Collector, Shindig, The Guardian, and The Times.

Pete Greenwood
Pete Greenwood gained his reputation as a guitarist during his university studies, and an extensive period of gigging in South London. The hours put in and the experience gained landed him tours in The UK, Europe and North America as an in-demand session guitarist.

Upon returning to London after a trip to Japan/US with Mojave 3, he found himself with a record contract and an album’s worth of original solo material. 2008 saw the release of his debut album “Sirens”. Met with critical acclaim, he then juggled projects with The Loose Salute, The See See, and session work for Starsailor, with tours alongside The Magic numbers, Goldfrapp, The Raconteurs and The Brian Jonestown Massacre to name a few.

Again, the second album “Beauceron” was written in a similar vein and released after his return to Yorkshire and a break from touring in 2015. Pete followed this with “Radio Slow”, recorded with The Dark Stars in a flurry of pre-covid activity and released in 2020.

Season's greetings to you. If you're looking for a present for that special someone, or for yourself or if you just want a book then we're here for you!

We stock a fantastic range of great quality, mainly secondhand, non-fiction and fiction starting from just a few quid all the way up to the more rare and collectible and everything in between. We even sell gift vouchers for those hard to buy for book lovers. We also now have a sister bookshop, Dragonfly Bookshop, in the Five Valleys Shopping Centre's Home of Vintage Market.

Secondhand books are a thoughtful and sustainable present that could last a lifetime, open new doors for people or just provide a few hours relaxation. One of the great things about secondhand bookshops is you never know what you might find when you walk through the door (other than books obviously). By supporting us or one of the many other brilliant independent businesses in town you also help support the local economy and keep more money in our community.

Drop by and have a browse or send us a message or email if you're looking for something in particular. You can even browse over 16000 of our books online, we have many, many more that we haven't got round to putting on there yet!
Hope to see you soon and have a great Christmas.

It has been a busy year with various projects. Martha has launched Dragonfly Bookshop, the sister shop to Fireside at The home of Vintage in the Five Valleys Centre, Ben has been busy with his recording studio www.benbrockettmusic.com, we've had some really big and interesting book collections in and there has been all the other usual business of independent bookselling to attend to.

As a result we've been pretty quiet when it comes to putting on gigs. When the brilliant Pete Greenwood told us he was on tour with Emma Tricca however we decided it was too good a gig to turn down so we're happy to announce a new Fireside Bookshop Presents Show for the New Year.

Some of you may have caught Pete at previous shows we've put on, this will be the first time we've had the pleasure of hosting Emma Tricca and we're really excited to see her play. On top of that it's free entry!
