A massive congratulations to all our runners who completed Oxford Half Marathon last weekend, you smashed it!

Over 300 runners took on the 13.1-mile route to fundraise for Helen & Douglas House, a massive personal challenge that makes a real difference to local children and families.

We also want to say a big thank you to everyonewho cheered the team on from the side of the route, supported the team at the Event Village or at our exclusive post-race reception. We heard from so many runners how your energy and enthusiasm kept them going throughout the run.

We're also thrilled to announce that together, we've raised £145k which is an incredible achievement!

Over 89% of our funding for the vital care we provide comes from public donations and amazing people carrying out challenges like this, so thank you to everyone who ran, cheered or donated.

Feel inspired by our runners? Sign up and join the team for 2027: https://hdh.org.uk/OxfordHalf27

Thank you to Oxford East MP Anneliese Dodds for visiting Helen & Douglas House today. Following our reopening after a small fire this summer, it was wonderful to welcome her back to the hospice.

The visit was an opportunity to meet our outstanding care team and see first-hand the impact of our support, as well as the moments of joy we help create every day.

This morning, Anneliese saw Bianka enjoying a music therapy session, bringing smiles, laughter and the chance for families to make precious memories together. 🧡

To mark the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week, we'll be lighting a candle to honour all of the babies, children and young people we've supported who have died.

While they're no longer with us, their memories live on in our hearts and minds and may they always rest in peace 🧡

We recently had some very exciting visitors at the hospice! Amate Animalia came to visit with some very special fluffy, spiky and cheeky friends!

The children enjoyed meeting them all and getting up close, touching and learning all about them. Sessions like this can help children express themselves, gain confidence and learn lots of new things.

Thanks to Amate Animalia for coming in and giving the children a memorable experience 🧡

An enormous congratulations to Beth and Mikey who last week took on a trek through the Indian Himalayas in aid of Helen & Douglas House. They walked about 6-8 hours a day through forests, snow-capped peaks and deep valleys, battling plenty of wind and rain along the way.

The trip was organised as part of a unique collaboration between 5 leading children’s charities. As well as Helen & Douglas House there were trekkers fundraising for Acorns Children’s Hospice, Children’s Hospice South West, Naomi and Jacks and Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. Overall the trekkers have raised over £111,000.

Beth, a fundraiser at another local healthcare charity, said 'We’re both so proud to be representing Helen & Douglas House. Having worked there, I’ve seen what a truly special place it is and how much love goes into everything they do.'

Thank you Beth & Mikey as well as all the other trekkers who raised such a huge amount of money on this special trek.

So far Beth and Mikey have raised an incredible £8,000 for Helen & Douglas House – if you would like to support their efforts you can donate to their page: https://www.justgiving.com/page/mikeyandbethhdh

9th - 15th October is .

Jenna tells the story of her little boy Teddy whose heart stopped just a day before he was born. With the support of our perinatal midwife and staff at the hospice, Teddy's mum and dad were given the time and space to grieve and make memories with Teddy at Helen & Douglas House.

“It was the first time that someone spoke to Teddy like he was still with us. They were telling him how tiny his feet were....when we got to Helen & Douglas House, it was like he mattered.” - Jenna, Teddy's mum

Last year, we received over £1.2 million in gifts from the estates of generous supporters who had remembered Helen & Douglas House in their Wills.

Every penny of this goes towards our shared goal – to provide a warm, homely place for children living with life-limiting and terminal conditions and their families, for years to come.

A decision to include a gift in your Will to your local hospice today, however small, can help us support local children and families who will need us in the future.

🧡 It's (5-11 October) and an opportunity to shine a spotlight on our hospice. This year's theme is: Don't leave hospice care to chance. With your support, we can be here for children, young people and families now and in the future.

As part of Hospice Care Week, we're sharing our film again, A Place You Didn't Expect: Helen & Douglas House. The film shows how Helen & Douglas House is so much more than people might expect. It's a place filled with play, friendship, specialist care, family support, laughter and precious everyday moments together.

In the film, Families who have received support from Helen & Douglas House speak honestly about their experiences and what finding our hospice meant to them. The film was made possible with thanks to the families we currently support and those who have previously used our services.

Whatever your reason for following or supporting us, we hope this film helps you better understand what the hospice means to the families we care for. If you know a family who may benefit from watching the film, please share it with them. We're here to support children, young people and families through some of life's most challenging times 🧡

Join us this Hospice Care Week and say: Don't leave hospice care to chance. Help it be there for all, now and forever.
