4 individual booklets (one for each year) bound together Each consisting of 70 pages of poetry, an engraved frontis, engraved title, and two further full-page engravings. A very good later quarter calf binding. 12mo. 4.7" x 3.0" x 1.7". brown calf spine over marbled boards. Spine with five raised bands and gilt titles ("Fulcher's Ladies Memorandum Book, 1831 - 1834"). Front endpaper with later gift inscription. Engraved folding frontis: Sudbury; by Gainsborough Dupont; engraved by John Hawksworth. Followed by an engraved title for 1831; “The Aubries”; by Gainsborough Dupont; engraved by J. Hawksworth. Plus a further two full-page engravings: "Ballingdon Grove, Near Sudbury"; “Bulmer Church, Near Sudbury." (all by Gainsborough Dupont; engraved by J. Hawksworth) . Bound with: Engraved folding frontis: "Woodbridge" ; by T. Churchyard; engraved by J. Hawksworth. Followed by an engraved title for 1832; “View in the Abbey Grounds, Woodbridge” by T. Churchyard; engraved by J. Hawksworth ; Plus a further two full-page engravings of Sudbury (both by Gainsborough Dupont; engraved by J. Hawksworth) . Followed by an engraved title for 1834: "Fishing-House On The Island Belonging To Charles Westropp Esq. Melford"; by Gainsborough Dupont; engraved by J. Hawksworth. Plus a further two full-page engravings of: "Aubries Near Sudbury"; “Springfield Lodge, Sudbury”; both by Gainsborough Dupont; engraved by J. Hawksworth. Also; two further engravings inserted at the rear: "Buxhall Church, Suffolk"; “Town Hall, Sudbury” engraved by T. Ginn (who was also the builder of the Town Hall, 1826-1827). All engravings foxed. The frontis to 1834 has also suffered wear to the leading edge (without serious loss). Clean text throughout. A very good collection of Sudbury related engravings.

George Williams Fulcher (1796-1855) of Sudbury, Suffolk who was a politician, poet, bookseller, stationer and printer in Sudbury, Suffolk he published among other works "Fulcher's Poetical Miscellany" in 1841. He married Lucy Lillie (b.1795) on 6 Aug 1822 in St. Gregory's Church in Sudbury, Suffolk. They had several children one of whom Edmund Syer Fulcher who also worked as a bookseller and publisher and continued his Father's work.

I have had many lovely books illustrated by Gustave Dore. This is the first time I have come across: Vivien / Guinevere bound together with a specific pocket for18 Albumen Silver folio photographs . Can anyone shed any light on, or, why this came about? Many thanks.

Scarce first edition with 18 engravings by Gustave Dore, plus a further 18 Albumen Silver folio photographs of the same Gustave Dore's engravings (attributed to William Jeffrey). Vivien & Guinevere bound together. A very good original Victorian binding. Printed by Swift & Co., London, England. Folio. 16.7" x 12.5" x 1.2". [6pp.]/pp.49/[6pp.]/pp.41 plus 18 full-page engravings with tissue guards. Maroon buckram over thick bevelled boards, with bright gilt titles and decoration to the front board. Re-cased preserving the original covers. Just a couple of small scuffs and bumps. Edges lightly rubbed and bumped. All page edges dulled gilt. Later mottled mauve endpapers. All plates drawn by Gustave Doré engraved by various: J. Stephenson; W. Ridgway (2); J. Godfrey (2); J. Saddler; W. H. Mote; A. Wilmore (2); T. O. Barlow (2); E. P. Brandard (2); J. H. Baker; C. H. Jeens (2); G. C. Finden; W. Greatbach. All plates: "Published Nov. 1st, 1867, by E. Moxon, & Co. 44 Dover St." Clean English text throughout. Just light foxing to tissue guards and margins of the plates. A very good example. It is believed that Moxon was the only publisher ever to commission steel engravings from Doré. All plates are full-page monochrome on heavy stock (all with tissue guards). Colophon (To the base of last leaf of each book): "London: Swift and Co., King Street, Regent Street, W."

"Photographer William Jeffrey (1826-1877). Born and christened in St. Pancras, London he was a commercial photographer working in 1856, when John Ruskin sat for him for two portraits. We also know that he was active in London as reproductions of his photographs were published in the Illustrated London News between the years 1864-1875. He had a studio (1860-1876), 114 Great Russell Street Bloomsbury. Finally, 35 samples of his work including the poet Robert Browning and the writers Thomas Caryle, Alfred Tennyson and the painter William Holman Hunt reside at The National Portrait Gallery, London." - See kevinflynnphotographer

The print is made directly from a negative without chemical development, producing a glossy, light-sensitive image. Oxford: Printed at the University Press. Sold by E. Gardner and Son, at the Oxford Bible Warehouse, Paternoster Row, and by G. B. Whittaker & Co., Ave Maria Lane, London; Also by H. Mozley and sons, Derby , M.DCC.XLIV. [1844] .

A very good pocket prayer book, carefully restored, with modern velvet covers, preserving the original pierced brass corners and clasps. All page edges with intricate gilt gauffered decoration enhanced by fore-edge painting of ecclesiastical images. The prayer book measures: 6.0" x 4.0" x 1.5". A very good binding. Crimson velvet covered boards and spine The brass clasps are in working order. Original ivory coloured silk endpapers, with in a worn velvet border. Binder's stamp to base of front endpaper: "E. A. Suttaby, Binders, London". The Prayer Book (dated 1844), bound with "A New Version Of The Psalms Of David..." (dated 1844). Clean text throughout, all pages within a red ruled frame. A well preserved example.

A very good miniature book in the original full leather binding. 50mm x 37mm x 12mm. [4pp.]/pp.509 . Black calf with double gilt filet border. Spine with three raised bands, gilt decorated compartments and gilt title. All page edges bright gilt. Inner gilt dentelles. White leather endpapers. Neat dedication to front free-endpaper: "E. K. Colville June 1852". Half-title present. Printed title-page. Clean Latin text throughout. VG.
