Here are some ideas on how to use charity shop basics to build your costume:

* Search through black skirts, blouses, or capes to get that witchy vibe.
* Look out for 70s and 80s patterns to get that retro style - channel your inner Bill and Ted/Waynes World.
* Check out formal wear or old prom dresses to be a fairytale princess, or an undead person from a bygone age.
* Turn old bedsheets into spooky ghosts, or rip up cheap clothes and add face paint to become a zombie.

A teddy bear with a large online following is attracting jaw-dropping bids for our charity!

The vintage Alresford Crafts honey bear was donated to the Clayton Road shop in Bradford. The shop team spotted that other toys from the brand can sell for around £30, so they decided to list the soft toy on eBay.

But a Bournemouth-based blog starring a similar bear has drastically increased the number and value of bids for the furry friend.

Louise Wilcock, shop assistant at the Clayton Road store, said: “We put the bear up hoping to raise double figures, but then it started receiving some amazing bids and a mini-bidding war broke out.

“We did some Googling and it turns out this specific model of bear has something of a cult following online. There's an online blog called Horace the Alresford Bear, and a related page with 14,000 followers, and it seems that some fans are desperate for a Horace of their own.

“What's really interesting is that the Horace from the blog was also bought from a Sue Ryder shop back in 2011.”

The original Horace was bought for £15 from a Sue Ryder shop in Bristol back in 2011 – and now is helping raise hundreds for the people we care for.

Although we are still in only the ninth month of 2026, our supplies of Calendars, Diaries and Organisers for next year are already to hand and selling well! As they make good Christmas stocking fillers, we recommend that you buy early to ensure availability. The Organisers are priced at £4.99, the Diaries (complete with pen) are £2.99 and the Calendars (in 7 different designs) just 99p.

Our shop features a collectables cabinet which currently holds some particularly interesting donated items. These include a rare "Bell and Howell" hand-wound 8mm camera, some Lego and a Moreno glass item alongside other porcelain and miscellaneous pieces. The shop is still operating on a reduced schedule but is open 10:00 to 16:00 Tuesday to Saturday - do please come along to view these items as well as our general stocks.

It’s Secondhand September! Did you know that if every adult in the UK did all their clothes shopping at secondhand stores, they could prevent 578.5 million kg of CO2 from entering the atmosphere? That's equivalent to a plane flying around the world 787 times!

Due to a vacancy gap, presently the shop is closed on Mondays, and open on reduced hours Tuesday to Saturday 10:00 till 16:00. If there are some bags found on arrival on the doorstep - especially on a Tuesday - we have no knowledge of how long they have been exposed to the elements, passing dogs and scavenging seagulls, so the contents must be binned. We are very happy to take donations whilst open but plead that none be left outside the shop when we are closed.

Today's star item donated to us is a PING "Frontier" Golf Cart carry bag which contains an almost full set of Donnay Extreme clubs as well as assorted golf balls, tees and even an umbrella. Thinking it will appeal to someone taking up the sport, it is offered at £95. Also available separately are a Dunlop putter and a Proforce Ladies #4 club, each priced at £8. All now await your inspection at our friendly shop.

Update 6th August: The plates have all now sold, a big thank-you to our Facebook friends for liking and sharing the Post.

A collectable item we currently have available is a set of 12 decorative plates by Franklin Porcelain depicting "Gamebirds of the World". Dated 1979, diameter 9" and by artist Basil Ede they are all in very good condition. Each is individually priced at £5.95, they now await your inspection at our friendly shop.
