Swindon Makerspace Community workshop with laser cutter, 3D printers, wood/metal work, electronics & craft facilities. Open evening every Wed. Unit 34, BSS House, Swindon

Members work on a range of projects that usually involve electronic hardware, software programming, and mechanical assembly. Popular projects often include prototyping electronic circuits using breadboard, and interfacing with Arduino, Raspberry Pi or Stellaris LaunchPad micro controllers. We also do a lot of 3D printing and metal machining. Members occasionally run informal sessions on topics suc

h as PICAXE, Laser Cutting, OpenSCAD, and 3D Printing. If you have an idea for a session you would like to run, please let us know via the group or on twitter

Open Evenings:

We meet regularly on Wednesday evenings from around 6:30pm for our open and social evening – anyone that’s interested in visiting the space is welcome to come along and see what’s going on, your first visit is free. Generally there are members around for Saturday mornings between 10:00-13:00 if you prefer to visit us then, however this is not always guaranteed. You are always welcome to contact us before hand to check. If you’re not quite ready for a full membership, there is a pay on the door option to use the space – it’s £5 for the evening, or for an entire day if escorted by another member (i.e. if you’re friends with an existing member). You’re strongly encouraged to bring along works in progress, new and interesting hardware, or any other projects or shiny gadgets. We love to help with other peoples projects (much easier than working on your own) and are more than happy to introduce you to the various tools. While robot wars the TV show isn't around anymore there are still many who compete around the world. One of the smallest categories is antweight where robots are limited to 150 grams! It's a great way to get into robotics in general on a much smaller budget than many of the much larger robots, and with most of them being 3d printed are often very easy to repair ready for the next round

Not often we show off some of the craft options we have to offer. We have a few sewing machines at the space which is great for many projects. This is for some cosplay for the up and coming Swindon Comic Con by a member who has been taught at the space how to sew.
