Customer Commission!

One of the nice things that has come out of starting TCS is getting back in touch with people who because of life and work you lose touch with.

This was the case with this build, I worked with the lady years ago at Comet and got to know her and her family really well and we attended each others weddings. So it was lovely to get back in touch when her eldest Son who's grown up way too quickly was looking for his first gaming PC that he'd saved up for.

With a list of games to go on, a nice budget (well done for saving) and a preference for a white PC case (always a good choice) I started putting together some ideas.

With any gaming build at this point in time the first part that needs to be looked at is the graphics card.

The market is in an even worse condition than it was a year ago with availability being poor and prices being very high. There were several options on the used market that would have suited the build but I did want to buy new if I could.

That wasn't going to be easy however there was one option that stood out and it's one that hasn't been without some mixed feelings.

The Radeon HD 6500XT is the latest new graphics card to be released and it's the first time in 2 years that a card has been released with an RRP in the 'affordable' price bracket with good availability.

I'll be doing a brief review of this card at some point as I don't think it's been given a fair crack of the whip as people's expectations are set very high for where the market is.

As impressed as I was myself with the graphics card the star of the show has to be the Intel i5 10400f cpu. I'm sure I've used it before but I don't remember it being this good.

In certain games the graphics card was running at 99% whilst the CPU was barely getting above 20% usage with the temperatures always remaining decent and hitting the turbo speeds a majority of the time. With great single core performance across 6 cores and 12 threads this is a pretty impressive gaming CPU.

Customer Commission.

A very nice customer got in touch with me after I had helped them with a laptop.

They had a very specific list for the specification and didn't want to go the typical RGB and glass panel route with the case.

I managed to source this ultra small form factor case which has the very unusual feature of being able to use a standard full size MATX motherboard rather than the custom ones usually seen in small cases. This allows for a wide range of upgrades in the future.

The CPU is the superb AMD Ryzen 5 3400G pro which has the fastest in built graphics available today in the form of the Vega 11 igpu. Which is capable of playing a wide range of modern titles at 1080p without the use of a separate graphics card.

Due to the graphics card shortage that is getting worse before it gets better this CPU has seen its value and scarcity increase dramatically as it's become a go to for many gaming capable builds.

Thank you to the customer and I'm very happy to hear they are over the moon with the PC.

Customer Commission!

One of our wonderful neighbors who we have got to know really well though our dogs being best friends wanted to replace an All in One computer that had become slow with something not only much quicker but something you can upgrade easily in the future, as the all in ones spec was set in stone.

What I came up with was a PC that is compatible with media from the past thanks to the Blu-ray/DVD drive but has plenty of storage for the future thanks to its 500gb NVME SSD and 2tb Hard drive.

The case has plenty of room for expansion and has a very neat feature where you can hide the dvd drive when not in use. Something common years ago but rare on new cases.

Customer upgrade.

As good as the Vega 11 integrated graphics are on Ryzen 3400 CPUs nothing really completes with a dedicated graphics card.

The customer wanted me to install the Asus ROG Strixx GTX 970 over the Christmas period.

The GTX 970 has become somewhat of a go to GPU given the on going shortages. It also provides a 300% boost in performance compared to the Vega 11 igpu.

Christmas Customer Commission.

A very lovely lady was recommended to me by a previous customer looking for a budget gaming PC for Christmas.

As much as I enjoy doing £800 to £1000 builds I get far more satisfaction in finding older parts that I can breathe new life into and still run many of the most popular games played today.

I'm very happy with how this turned out working to a budget and I hope the Customer and the special person receiving the PC have a lovely Christmas

Customer Commission!

Something a bit different today. For this PC the customer had a couple of requirements. A DVD writer and and memory card reader integrated into the PC. Doesn't seem so tricky until you realise that almost all modern PCs are internet media only. So the cases, motherboards and layouts are not designed for internal drives.

I have hundreds of disk based PC games still so I have a PC separate for those games and I've found external drives to be very unreliable.

Luckily I was able to find a new case that can be used with internal drives. So we have modern hardware in the form of a AM4 based system in a functional, older style case.
