My plant sales table at Mere Sands Wood has been freshly stocked.
All the plants are grown in peat free compost & the majority of them are grown to attract bees & pollinators 💚

The roses are looking really good this year, I think they enjoyed the previous rain showers.
There are more blooms than ever before, with many more to come.

David Austin rose ‘St. Swithun’ has the most beautiful fragrance & full petals.

Another David Austin rose called ‘Goldfinch’ which has tight apricot buds followed by creamy open flowers. It is almost thornless, but unfortunately only flowers once.

‘Little Rambler’ is also a David Austin rose. It is a prolific bloomer with a gorgeous fragrance.

Unfortunately I don’t have the name of the last two roses but they have both earned their places in the garden.

Remember to deadhead to extend the flowering season 🩷🧡

David Austin again, Phyllis Bide which scrambles slowly through the obelisk. Again, the buds are small & apricot maturing to pink blushed open blooms. It is a reliable repeat flowerer & smells delicious.

I discovered Geranium himalayense ‘Derrick Cooke’ by pure chance at an RHS show some years ago.
It’s one of those plants that probably doesn’t look its best in a pot, but in the border, its flowers are reliably stunning.

It has large, pale white flowers with intricate, darker purple veining & grows to around 30cm tall. It’s perfect for the front of a border, not too fussy about either soil type or aspect.
The foliage is green for the spring & summer but it takes on a red autumnal hue in October.
It’s also very hardy down to at least -15 degrees, should you wish to step outside with a thermometer in sub zero temperatures 😃
I just know it reliably reappears in my border in spring 💜

A lovely impromptu walk around Yarrow country park this morning after picking up some compost & a few bedding plants for our “round the door” pots.

The lupins are growing wild at the edge of the water much to the delight of the red bottom bees 🐝

We’ve spent a lot
of time weeding, trimming hedges & mowing in the garden today.
Visitors coming on BH Monday has spurred us on 😃

The Iris & Astrantias are looking lovely at the moment. The plants look lush because of all the rain we’ve had 😉
Most of the Iris are Iris Sibirica as they grow best in our damp soil.

Enjoy your sunny May Bank Holiday everyone 😎

Baptisia ‘Lemon Meringue’

Astrantia major ‘April Love’

Astrantia major ‘Ladies of the Night’

Astrantia major ‘Dark Desire’

Astrantia major ‘Buckland’

Iris ‘Summer Skies’

Iris ‘White Swirl’

Iris ‘Roaring Jelly’ I love this name!

Iris ‘Royal Blue’

This is one of my favourite parts of our garden. It’s difficult to see the individual plants from the photo but I’ll put some of them on individually.
There are lots of early perennials in here interspersed with pretty Forget-me-not flowers.
I’ll put the names of the plants underneath the photos.
Please feel free to share your favourite garden space.

Lots of the plants I grow are perfect for attracting bees & other pollinators into your garden.
They are available for sale between Wednesday & Sunday at Mere Sands Wood 🐝

We all know that bees and many other pollinators are under threat, but we don’t always know how to help them. Luckily, bee conservation can start on your doorstep! 🐝

Whether you have a large garden or a small balcony or doorstep with room for a couple of plants, gardening for bees is all about using your space wisely.

A confident little robin accompanied us on an evening walk last week.

He flew a few feet ahead of us each time, & then settled on the frothy cow parsley waiting for us to catch up with him.

He seemed very happy to be photographed too.
