Join us today and tomorrow for “Let’s Go Green” at Holy Trinity Church, Tarleton.
Last night we got out of our work clothes and chatted with everyone who put in so much effort to bring this creative environment festival to fruition.
There are so many brilliant ideas in the exhibits, recycling and reusing materials and showcasing what we can grow locally. As you might expect for a farming community there is produce in abundance which has been incorporated into designs which have all been created without floral foam.

If you are in the area, do come down and see the festival. It’s free, and open from 9am-7pm today (Saturday 12th September) and 12-3.30pm tomorrow

Next weekend we are participating in “Let’s Go Green” a creative environment festival in our local church, Holy Trinity Tarleton.

The festival involves local community groups of all ages, from allotment holders to flower clubs, Brownies and Rainbows to the U3A.

We are coming together to create exhibits informed by what is locally available, emphasising seasonality, resourcefulness, recycling and care for the Earth.

The designs for the festival have been guided by the principles adopted by the Sustainable Church Flowers movement:

-Use of biodegradable and compostable materials
- Local and seasonal flowers and plants
-Avoidance of single use plastics such as floral foam

The festival is free, and I’ll be giving a talk and mini demo about Sustainability in flower arranging on Saturday morning at 11am

After a recent visit to a florist and flower farming friend, wandering through her flower field and ‘playing’ with flowers, I realised just how much I need to make more time for this.

I grow flowers, pick them and then arrange them, often to a formula, a budget or a colour scheme. Whilst I’m still being creative, it isn’t quite the same as simply ‘playing’ with flowers.

So, whilst at the field yesterday, I picked myself an extra bucket of blooms, with no brief and no expectations of what they would become. I’m usually very neat and precise in my work and I love to use lots of foliage, but I knew I wanted to create something a little less ‘me’ - less precise and with no foliage!

I love colour and experimenting with bold colour palettes, as well as using lots of texture. A lot of the flowers I chose wouldn’t be suitable for our retail bouquets because they were too blown or not ‘long lasters’, but still beautiful and perfect for our wedding and event work.

I think when something is both your job and something you love, it’s easy to forget to do it just for the joy of it.

So, this is my little reminder to myself to make more time to play.

A gorgeous selection of what left our studio this week 🌻

We’ve been busy with gift bouquets for local delivery, wholesale flower buckets, restaurant table arrangements, retail bunches, farewell flowers, subscription orders and a beautiful local wedding.

And the best part? Every single flower that left our studio this week was grown by us, right here in Tarleton. Truly seasonal, locally grown flowers at their very best!

We have an important announcement regarding our retail bouquets Booths Supermarket Longton.

From Monday 3rd August our supply days will change to Thursday-Sunday ONLY and our flower stand will be located on your left as you walk into store.

Our Click & Collect service remains the same meaning you can continue to order via our website (Petal & Twig) for collection in store Monday-Sunday.

Don’t forget that we also offer local delivery across South Ribble Monday-Saturday, again find link in bio to order online.

What lies behind our seasonal summer bouquets? Our flower farm is now in full production and we are picking daily.

What’s in season in Lancashire? Outdoor grown lavatera, mint, verbena bonariensis, nigella, achillea, sweet peas, godetia and alchemilla mollis

We are still buying in a few flowers: sunflowers, scabious and phlox as ours aren’t quite ready yet.

What’s not in our bouquets? Plastic wrap, pesticides, herbicides. We also don’t need to use precious water resources irrigating our crops, thanks to our incredible organic matter rich soil here in Tarleton.

What a difference 2 weeks makes! Picking has started on our summer blooms and we couldn’t be happier to see all our hard work coming to fruition.
Lavatera, sweet Williams, achillea, feverfew, mint and alchemilla mollis all picked tonight from the field and will be in all our bouquets from tomorrow morning. Order on our website for local delivery or pick up from Longton
