May is a tricky month for locally grown flowers, after the tulips and narcissi finish and before our spring sown flowers are blooming. However, by the end of May we can almost always pick a few roses for our weddings, along with a selection of “wildflowers” including sweet rocket, campion, cornflowers, Orlaya, mint and grasses.
We added Cornish sweet Williams and peonies from and local antirrhinums grown less than half a mile from the venue.
There’s been quite a lot of coverage of British Flower farming via our friends at RHS Chelsea Flower Show this week, so it’s great to be able to showcase just how gorgeous seasonal and locally grown flowers can be.
* We did buy in 1 bunch of Dutch peonies, and some Italian eucalyptus foliage, but overall the wedding was about 90% British, and most definitely seasonal.
It’s great to be picking again and we’ll be adding more of our own grown in the weeks ahead.
