Thurloxton Book Exchange

Thurloxton Book Exchange Thurloxton Book Exchange for local residents. Take a book to read and leave a book in its place! Welcome to Thurloxton Book Exchange.

This facility is provided by Thurloxton Parish Council for villagers and visitors to enjoy. When British Telecom decided that this phone box was no longer viable, they gave the Parish Council the opportunity to purchase it! After a substantial debate it was agreed that it would be purchased for the vast sum of £1.00. This way our traditional local landmark, is preserved and we can give it a useful

second life. Thurloxton book exchange is just that, take a book you fancy reading and leave one that you think someone else might enjoy. There is no charge for using this facility, all we ask is, that you leave at least one book when taking another. Donations of books are welcome, just add them to the shelves. Books are removed after 2 months and donated to Sue Ryder Care to sell. So far this has raised over £550! email: [email protected]

A lovely email today from the Barnardo's shop where I donate all the old books from the book exchange.

Dear Thurloxton Book Exchange,
It was great to see you in store today, thank you so much for donating your pre-loved items to Barnardo’s and for being a valued little green card holder.
By donating to us and signing up to Gift Aid, you're helping us to raise the vital funds we need to change the lives of vulnerable children, young people and families across the UK.
On behalf of all those who rely on Barnardo’s work – a big thank you for your support!
Thank you.

The book exchange has been tidied up and every book in there has been changed. There are some great childrens books in there as well!

I delivered 2 massive sacks of the old books to the charity Dr Barnardo's who were extremely grateful for them and will sell them in their Norton Fitzwarren shop to raise money for their fantastic charity.

Not only are we back in business but I received the following email today thanking me for the donation of books to Barnardos.

This donation was made up of duplicate books and books left from when I last sorted the book exchange.

Thank you,

The Barnardo's Retail Team.

Barnardo's is a children's charity that protects and supports the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people. We help bring out the best in them – no matter who they are or what they have been through.

We are back in business!!

Thank you to all of you that have donated books. There are now over 200 books in the book exchange ready for you to enjoy.

Don't worry if you can't see the books you donated, I was snowed under with them and they are in my garage ready to go in the book exchange. We have enough donations now thank you.

If any of you saw anything suspicious last Wednesday feel free to update our crime reference number 5221274197. If you see anyone taking lots of books that isn't driving a Silver Range Rover Sport then they are stealing them.

Regarding the old books that have been unread for over a month, these are now donated to Barnardos charity shop in Norton Fitzwarren, mainly because I can park outside easily and they are really grateful for them.

I've had 2 companies offering help with CCTV and I will be dealing with this soon.

Happy reading!!

I'm seething!!!!

Some greedy, selfish, halfwit has stolen every single book from the book exchange including the yellow tub for new donations!!

I'm waiting for the local PCSO to call me back to report it. The thieves did leave a clue in the from of a receipt from a shop in Bournemouth dated yesterday.

I suppose this means we now need to fit CCTV to the book exchange. Is there any local companies that would like to help sponsor us with this?

It's been an amazing resource for the village which is well very used. Furthermore when we finish with the books they are donated to charity shops to sell.

In the meantime feel free to donate books to the Thurloxton Book Exchange in the old Phone Box next to the old Pub that was the Green Dragon.

Once again the book exchange has been revamped with 170 new books including some childrens titles.

There is also nearly a full shelf of books by Lee Child, if you haven't read one I urge you try. They are very addictive and are literally hard to put down. At least two have been made into films featuring Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher.

As always all the old books were donated to local charity shops.

Enjoy.

The book Exchange has had a tidy up and a restock today. Thank you to all those who have donated fresh books.

The turnover in books is amazing and I only had to remove 20 or so that had marks on them to show me that they were there present last time I tidied it.

All books that are tired or not been exchanged are donated to Sue Ryder Care to raise money for this amazing charity. Since 2012 our redundant books have helped Sue Ryder care raise over £1000.

I also discovered a note on one of the shelves today which read as follows;

"To Whomever looks after this facility. I think this is a wonderful idea thing to do I was passing today and saw this so stopped to see what it was. I thought maybe you could leave a donation but then realised its an exchange!! I've borrowed a book and promise I will be back to donate more. Fantastic Idea keep up the good work."

I'm glad that the Book Exchange is so well used, when I first suggested the old Phone Box be used for this purpose at the Parish Council meeting the members of the committee thought I was mad!
