We’ve had a massive influx of emails, messages and enquiries about pottery lessons recently, and we’re incredibly grateful for all the support and enthusiasm.

As many of you know, Rich is currently our only pottery tutor, so there is a limit to the number of lessons and workshops he can offer. While the teaching sessions are the part you see, there’s also a huge amount of behind-the-scenes work involved …preparing clay, glazing, loading and unloading kilns, firing pieces, and ensuring everyone’s creations are finished to the highest standard. Plus the demand of items in the shops and at festivals he has to prep for!

Because of this, we can only release a certain number of sessions at a time to make sure every student gets the best possible experience.

All currently available pottery lessons can be booked through our website, and we’ll continue to add new dates as soon as Rich’s schedule allows. Please keep an eye on our website and page, as any new sessions will be released there first.

Thank you again for your patience, understanding and incredible support. We’re so pleased that so many people want to get creative with us, and we can’t wait to welcome more of you into the studio soon! 💚

Owning an independent business is hard right now.

There, I said it.

As shopkeepers and small business owners, we often put on a brave face. We smile, welcome customers through the door, post the pretty photos on social media, and tell everyone we’re doing fine. But the truth is, for many of us, it’s a struggle.

Takings are down.
Footfall is down.
Costs continue to rise.
And every single day feels like a battle to keep going.

And we completely understand why. The cost of living has affected everyone, and when household budgets are stretched, spending on things that aren’t essentials often has to take a back seat. We know people aren’t choosing not to support local businesses; many simply have less to spend.

We don’t always talk about it because we’re proud of what we’ve built. We don’t want to sound negative. We don’t want people to think we’re failing or searching for pity. But behind many independent shop doors are people lying awake at night wondering how they’re going to make it through another month.

So when you see posts encouraging people to shop local, please know that it isn’t just an annoying marketing slogan.

We genuinely mean it.

Every purchase, every recommendation, every share, every visit through the door makes a difference. Without customers choosing to support independent businesses, many simply won’t survive.

I think we can say on behalf of all the Tavistock independents…We’re incredibly grateful to every person who chooses to spend their money with us. You might see a small purchase, but we see someone helping to keep the lights on, supporting a dream, and helping maintain the character and community of our high streets.

A little refresh, a new layout… but the same chilled Leaf & Stone vibes.

The sunshine may have taken a temporary break (we’re keeping everything crossed that it returns soon! ☀️), but it’s still feeling bright, calm and full of happy energy here in the shop.

Rich is spending the day at Plymouth Flavour Fest, swapping the pottery studio for the demonstration stage and showing visitors the art of throwing pottery live.

Surrounded by some of the South West’s top chefs, he’s demonstrating how handcrafted ceramics are made and how pottery plays an important role in presenting beautiful food. From plates and bowls to serving pieces, every item starts as a lump of clay and is transformed by hand.

This event is always one of our favourite weekends of the year, right here on our home turf, surrounded by so many wonderful local businesses, growers, makers and friendly faces. To receive this recognition means so much to us.
