Today wasn't really about sewing. 🩷

Today was about stepping back.

I spent the day outside, did my first cold water dip, walked, thought, breathed, and gave myself permission to slow down for a little while.

And honestly, I think I needed it.

It's easy to believe that success comes from constantly doing more.

But today reminded me of something I've forgotten lately.

The best ideas I've ever had for Shelly's have never came from sitting in 4 walls

They've come from being outside walking, hiking.
From getting away from the noise.

Because long before Shelly's existed, when I didn't know who was or what my purpose in life was, hiking gave me the space to dream.
Space to believe that maybe I could build something of my own.

And eventually, Shelly's Creations started!

That's why today felt so important.
Going back to the version of me who dreamed bigger.
Thought differently.
And came home full of ideas instead of pressure.

One of my favourite moments today was chatting to a lovely lady called Jane, who was sitting in the middle of Carding Mill Valley painting, unbothered, happy and free, completely present in the moment and enjoying what she loved.

It was truly a beautiful moment to witness.

Because somewhere along the way, we've been taught that every minute needs to be productive.

But some of the most important moments in life happen when we're simply allowing ourselves to be.

I still made it back to the shop for my evening session.

But I came back with a clearer head, a fuller heart, more ideas and more inspiration than I've felt in a long time.

So if you need the reminder today...
is make time for the things that bring you back to yourself. 🩷

This week, Shelly's Creations finally feels like Shelly's Creations again. 🩷

🩷 If I'm honest, when I first started doing these Day in the Life of Shelly's videos, I felt a bit stupid.

I worried people would watch them and think, "Why would I learn from her?"

I'm daft.
I'm a bit chaotic.
I dance while painting shop fronts.
And I definitely don't take myself too seriously.

🩷 But I think when you've spent years being told you're too much, not enough, too annoying, too emotional eventually some of it sticks.🩷

And every now and then, those little voices creep back in.

You start questioning yourself.

Am I good enough?
Do I actually know what I'm doing?
Why would people choose me?

The truth is, even though I'm all those things, I absolutely love what I do.

I love teaching people to sew, crochet, craft
I love watching someone go from "I can't do this" to "Look what I've made!"
I love seeing friendships form around a sewing machine.
I love watching people's confidence grow.

And if I'm really honest, it's one of the very few things in life that I've always felt genuinely good at. 🩷

When you run a business on your own, there's nobody there to remind you how far you've come on the days you're doubting yourself.

You still have to open the doors.
Show up.
Teach the classes.
Keep going.

Even on the days when my confidence isn't quite there.

And I think somewhere along the way, I lost a little bit of my spark too.

Not my passion for Shelly's.
Not my love for teaching.

Just that little bit of belief in myself that started it all.

The funny thing is, while I've been worrying about whether these videos make me look silly, the business has been growing.

New people have been walking through the door.
People have been learning new skills and becoming part of our little community.

So maybe being myself wasn't such a bad idea after all.

This week reminded me that Shelly's was never built on being perfect.

It was built on creativity, friendship, laughter, confidence and community.

And somewhere between the pink paint, the videos, the sewing machines and all of your support...

I found my spark again. 🩷

Today was the day the shop front finally got painted pink.
Honestly, I loved every minute of it.
Music on.
Paint brush in hand.
Having a little boogie while I worked.
I'm pretty sure everyone walking down the high street now thinks I'm an absolute weirdo, dancing around while painting a shop front... but to be fair, that's not exactly breaking news. 😂

When I finally stood back and looked at it, For the first time, it really felt like Shelly's.

Not someone else's vision.
Not what I think I should fit into.
Not what blends in.
Just me.
My personality.
My creativity.
My little bit of chaos in shop form. 🩷

It's bright.
It's bold.
And it makes me smile every time I look at it.

And that's the whole point. I hope when people walk through that door, they feel a little bit of that Shelly's love too.
A place where you can be creative. Be yourself. And never feel like you have to dull your sparkle, because the magic should always stay alive 🩷

🩷 I've shared a lot of "A Day in the Life of Shellys" lately and if I'm honest I think we could all do with a break from my face 😂

🩷 I only see most of these ladies for a couple of hours each week, but behind those few hours are entire lifetimes of stories, adventures, achievements, challenges, and memories.🩷

Some have climbed mountains, literally, became football coaches, Others have raised families, built careers, travelled the world, overcome hardships, facing hardships still but have lived and are living life full of courage and resilience.
🩷
What inspires me most is that they're still showing up! Still learning! Still creating! Still trying something new!
🩷 Sewing brings us together, but it's also proof that life never stands still. 🤍 No matter your age or stage of life, there are always new skills to learn, new friendships to make, and new people to meet.

🩷 Over the years, I've had the privilege of teaching probably a thousand women. Some are still with me today, while others were only passing through for a season. But every single one has left their mark. I've learned so much from the conversations we've shared, the laughter around the table, the stories, the wisdom 🩷
I'm grateful for every person I've met through Shelly's Creations, past and present.

🩷 Sometimes we think our biggest adventures are behind us, but sitting around my sewing tables each week reminds me that's simply not true.🩷
🩷 I just wanted to share how grateful I am to be surrounded by such inspiring women.
The world needs more of this. 🩷
Apologies for missing photos of a lot of you but this post took me nearly 2 hours 😂

3am wake up call and straight into the graft.
Then it was gym time... although I'm rapidly running out of footage, so if you spot a clip from a week ago, no you didn't 👀
After that, it was a different route down the Wrekin... spent most of the walk trying not to break every bone in my body. 😂
Then it was off to the shop to finish off all the odd jobs that have deadlines.
It's basically been an odd job kind of day.
Even the lawn got some attention
By "attention", I mean I spent what felt like half my life mowing it and it somehow looks exactly like I cut it using a blindfold and positive thinking.
At this point I was tempted to hire a sexy gardener.... If there's such a thing 😫
I realised I don't actually have any tools to do my odd jobs so tottled off to B&Q
I walked in feeling quite confident.
Ten minutes later I was staring at shelves thinking, "Are these tools or props from Ghostbusters?" 🤣
One of them definitely looked capable of launching me through a wall.
Needless to say, I left more confused than when I arrived. 🛠️
Then it was back to school run/dinner duties before heading back to work for a double session with my lovely ladies.
Lots of laughs, plenty of chaos, and the usual amount of taking the mick out of each other. Honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. 🩷 Yes I am a silly bu**er but if these videos encourage anyone to have a go, learn something new, or realise you dont need to know everything before you start, then they're worth making.
And if not, maybe they're just evidence for my future husband to look at and think, "Yep... that's the weirdo I wanna marry." 🤣
Still all bones in tact, still winging life but still smiling 😁

Been a bit quiet on socials this weekend, it's because it's been my birthday weekend! 🥳

And after the week I've had, it was definitely time to let my hair down a bit.

The reality is, I'm just a normal person trying to juggle all the things that come with running a business, and every now and then, you've got to let off a bit of steam.
Because nobody can pour from an empty cup. 🩷

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is switch off, laugh until your cheeks hurt, celebrate your birthday in every way possible like your 21 again🤪

Because when Monday comes around, I want to be able to give my people and my business the very best version of me.

And that starts with looking after myself too.

Now the birthday celebrations are over, the to do list is waiting, and it's time to do it all again. 😂

04/06/2026

Started the day at the gym with my PT. Ladies, if you need someone who's your personal hype man, part motivational speaker/ comedian, he's your man.

Somehow he manages to make me laugh while also making me question every life choice that led me to feeling like my arms are falling off (doesn't remember you have to move your fingers out the way of camera though) 🤣

Then it was straight to Shelly's for my busiest day of the week

And honestly. I wish every day was like this!!

The shop has been full of creativity, laughter, giggles, good chats and allround chaos. The kind of day where everyone leaves smiling and you remember exactly why you do what you do. 🩷

Then back to mum duties I know they're embarrassed by me... but I'm pretty sure that's only because I'm cooler than they are. 😎🤣

I've pretty much survived the day powered entirely by caffeine, 2 hours sleep and good vibes. Feel like the energiser bunny 🤪
Busy shop.
Happy customers.
Questionable caffeine intake.
Still standing.

We'll call that a successful Thursday. 😜
