You don’t need a massive budget or lots of clay to make beautiful, fine silver jewellery!

This lucky charm weighs less than 3g. The absolute best part about making pieces like this? There is virtually zero waste

✨ TOP TIP FOR PERFECT PIECES: Rub a tiny amount of release balm (I use Slikbaby) onto your finger before pressing the clay into the mould. This completely stops the clay from sticking to you!

Want to personalise your charms? Leave your fingerprint on the back! If you prefer a smooth look, simply file the back once the clay is dry

Are your silver metal clay coils cracking or not sticking to each other when you roll up into an ammonite?

The Fix: Lightly brush the coil with water all the way along its length. It softens the clay just enough to make it bend smoothly and coils to lock the spiral in place

Ever had a silver metal clay piece fizz, flip, pop or let off steam when you fire it? Disappointing isn’t it?!

It’s usually a sign there was still moisture trapped inside the clay. Want to know how to avoid that happening?

In this week’s Silver Nutshell newsletter on Substack, I explain why using a little gentle heat to dry your silver clay before firing can help prevent these problems—and why it’s important for achieving successful results

Silver Metal Clay >> Here’s a neat trick to use to make a curved setting for a torch fireable gemstone. I textured the clay first and cut a small hole slightly smaller than the gemstone in the clay

TRY THIS >> place clingfilm over the silver metal clay before you cut out your shape. This will give you a curved edge to your setting

GEMSTONES >> choose torch fireable ones for this technique. CZs are usually a safe bet, but always test them first on their own to save wasting clay

can be a challenge when you have a fully textured ring.

Start by joining the ring band first and leave the clay to dry. Now go back in, first with water, and then add tiny amounts of silver metal clay paste, gradually filling in any holes and building up the layers until there are no gaps visible
