A colony of bumblebees ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ has built its nest beneath my pottery, so the studio door stays open as they come and go with their gentle, constant buzz.

Every year I let my artichokes burst into blossom, resisting the harvest because I know just how much the bees love them. Watching these beautiful flowers alive with busy bumblebees is far more rewarding than anything I could bring to the table.

It feels like such a privilege to welcome them into my garden and to share this little corner of the world with them. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’›

Itโ€™s been a little while since I last posted. The heat made it almost impossible to spend long days in the pottery, so I took a step back and waited for cooler weather.

Now that things have cooled down a bit, Iโ€™m slowly getting back to what I love mostโ€”creating large vessels.

This piece has already been slipped in a black slip and bisque-fired. Itโ€™s now ready for the next stage, where the magic happens: glazing. Thatโ€™s the moment when the pot starts to reveal its true character, depth, and personality.

Iโ€™ll be sharing that transformation in my next photos. For now, hereโ€™s a little glimpse of the journey so far.

The vessel has reached its next stage.

In my last post, I showed the assembly of two large wheel-thrown bowls, carefully joined by hand to create a single form. After a slow drying process, the piece is now completely air-dried โ€” what potters call greenware.

Today, Iโ€™m applying a layer of black slip, adding depth and character to the surface before the next firing. Once the slip has dried, the vessel will go through its bisque firing. After that comes glazing and further decoration, which Iโ€™ll share in a future post.

Ceramics is a process of patience, with each stage building on the last. Itโ€™s always rewarding to see a piece gradually reveal its final character.

Assembling larger, one of a kind object vessels, I throw bowls separately on the wheel, letting them take shape with a rhythm of their own. Once theyโ€™re leather-hard, I carefully slip and join them, watching how each curve aligns. The act of bringing them together by handโ€”two forms uniting, shapes a vessel thatโ€™s both strong and intimate.

The first harvest from my garden. A handful of peas ๐Ÿซ› freshly picked and still sweet from the vine, resting on a bright yellow-green plate from my Merry Mustard range.

Itโ€™s one of my favourite moments of the year โ€” those first small signs of summer, reminding me that good things take time. ๐Ÿ’š
