Well folks it's tough times for us all and I've not anything fish related to post. Hot a mountain of throwback whatever but I'll do some of that if it goes on too long. Bumped into a neighbour who makes great stuff fro. Wood and kindly gave me this. It needs amending with the words " eventually" but believe me its first thing I'm doing after lockdown. First now though it's time for rig tying and getting carp gear ready. Thanks Paul Dennis at Old Stable Wood Turning for this little decorative piece.

Totally forgot to post this pic of a PB trout. I say PB but in reality its a by-catch whist fishing for pike. Between me and fishing partner Ross Cordery we didnt have a single bite for the pike and the only take of the day was this immaculate 19lb brownie. So yes I was made up to see such an incredible trout but not taking any of the glory as it fell to a whole large bluey on a pair of treble hooks. The irony is that today I saw a 30lb pike posted caught on an orange fly intended for a trout. Some fluff chucker caught the pike of dreams and I caught the trout of dreams which is wasted on a chump like me. Still a few weeks left so tight lines if your getting out there.

The last few weeks have been pretty crap for me as far as fishing is going? Bad weather constantly ruining my plans and affecting anywhere I brave to wet a line in but this week I was blown away. The lure below was one I have wanted for ages to use on a venue later in the year and is 10inches long and intended to catch muskies.A week ago I raised a big fish which looked close to the magical 20lb mark but this venue doesn't really produce big fish so I earmarked the spot. I decided to try out the action of the lure at the exact spot where I saw the strike on my local canal just to make sure its up to the job. In true Panto style I cast out, took two turns of the reel and the surface exploded. A minute later this absolute stunning pike was mine and I cant stop looking at the picture. Ive had plenty of bigger pike sure but considering the average stamp in this canal is between 2lb and 6lb this must be one of the best in there at the minute and its a creature of true beauty. I did however make a schoolboy error and didnt have scales so I will never know its weight. Not that it matters but I guess its 18 or 19lb but numbers are for nerds and this is a memory I will never forget.

Fishing certainly wasn't easy today. Well for the winner of the deadbait comp it was but many struggled on there today. You know its a slow day when the only pics are of dogs, sunrises, sunsets and the rods. Loved every minute of it though and what a beaut of a day. Well done to Ben humbers dad for smashing it and clearing up the cash.

This morning I took the kids for half a day out piking. Had a one toner which I missed, this bite which was a lovely dark minter and nothing else.....apart from what happened caught on the water wolf. I will post the vid tomoz but it certainly gives you a lot to think about when fishing weedy waters. Anyway any moment spent with the kids is awesome and any pike is welcome, especially when they look like this. Now roll on next session. I hope you all had a good weekend and put a few on the bank

You know when your trying hard to build up a professional library of pics but your subject is a total clown and can't catch for love or money. Tag a mate who fits the bill. Other than that I love these pics.

What a way to start 2020. Possibly the best thing about fishing is the unpredictability of it all. Sure I try to go at the right time of day, I watch the weather, pressure, moonphase, whatever and it doesnt always do you any favours. The last 2 months of 2019 were mediocre at best but I always know it comes good eventually. So you try a new swim that doesnt even look pikey but I had a little hunch it might be good. Always listen to your inner voice. It doesnt always pay off but when it does its dynamite. Both rods at the same time and 2 amazing creatures. 21lb and 21lb 8 oz. You couldnt write it. Now I hope the lucky streak continues.

Well the end of another year as an angler and more importantly a father. Ive had some awesome trips this year and juggled life, work, family and tried to cram in some fishing. Broke some pb's, had some horrific blanks, got married, lost some expensive lures, moaned it was too hot for fishing, moaned there was too much rain for fishing, caught the most perch Ive ever had on the fly rod in a hurricane, made some new friends, hopefully didn't lose any old ones, started taking two kids fishing instead of one and tried my best to be a decent person. Most importantly I have my health and may it stay that way. Just looked through 100's of pics from 2019 of fish of all sizes and this one means the most. Not a record, but a summer carp caught with my kids. The people with the least life experience who manage to teach me the most. I mean it sincerely..... Happy new year and may you all have a lovely 2020. Hopefully see you on the bank. Panto ###

Back from a xmas social with some old fishing buddies to a venue none of us have ever fished. To say it was tough was an understatement. Chocolate brown water, 1000's of gallons of rain,a cold snap and rising conditions( did I make any excuses yet?) but I managed one decent fish that was 95 percent in tact. You can guess which creature did the damage. Lucky escape for this big girl

And this is the reason I dont use wide angle lens' for fishing photos. The modern trend of catching a respectable fish, then holding it out, especially to a wide angle lens makes them all look like giants. You might kid some of the people but you can't kid a photographer. For the record this pike was about 7lb but I'm sure you'll agree it looks a lot more. Next time I will try to shoot with a more cropped lens to show the comparison and might even do a quick vid with some explaination. What you reckon?

My first day back out as a free agent. Chasing Perch in sub zero conditions is never an easy task but between 5 of us we managed a good amount that anyone would be happy with. My best was about 2 and a half pound but quite a few over 3lb graced the nets. Heres a handful of pics that sums up the day. Martin cox got the lions share but looking at his set up, I'll never know how :) Hope your all getting out and banking a few

Note to self. Don't have a single cast just to see if there are any perch in the intended swim. One cast, one bite and this immaculate drain caught stripey was in the net. Luckily one of the people I was guiding was an awesome photographer and took this snap of me. Brett the davies your the man x
