The next meet-up is on Friday 15th May, 6-8pm, in the Folklore Centre Library, Todmorden.

Each month we gather in the Folklore Centre’s cosy library to read a short folk tale, explore some of the inspiring illustrated books from the centre’s collection, and create our own illustrations inspired by the story.

This month’s theme: Honey Paw from the ‘Treasury of Folklore: Woodlands & Forests’ by Dee Dee Chainey and Willow Winsham

📖 The story will be read at the beginning of the session and copies will be available for reference.

🎨 Drawing materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own favourite supplies if you prefer.

Here’s the fruits of another wonderful Folkdraw evening, this time exploring the Barguest, a Yorkshire based black dog said to stalk the night, sometimes with horns and glowing red eyes 🔥🐕 Can you spot any local Todmorden landmarks too?

This month’s inspiration came from the fantastic Ghostlore by , with illustrations by the brilliant .esteban 😍 There’s also an episode of Icy’s podcast Fabulous Folklore diving into this eerie creature - well worth a listen.

Such a fantastic range of drawings again, can’t wait for the next one ✨

Today marked the Spring Equinox 🌚🌝 and the very first Folkdraw Club !

We explored the Chinese folktale of the Silkworm Goddess, and I’m honestly blown away by the range of ideas and unique drawing styles that came to life in such a short time 🫶

Thank you so much to everyone who came along, I had such a lovely time and already can’t wait to dive into our next folktale ✨
