We honestly don’t know what’s going on here.
One minute Allan’s doing his job, the next he’s dancing around the department to Baby Shark like nobody’s watching.

Thankfully, Fynn the shark eventually turns up to deal with him. 😂

We’re not saying Allan deserved to get eaten…
…but we’re also not saying he didn’t. 🦈🤣
Sorry Allan. Fynn had no choice.

We did a thing 🤣🙈

A couple weeks ago we met up with the fantastic and highly knowledgeable Dionne from Small Scale Aquatics. Dionne has been in the fish keeping industry for a good few years and has quickly become popular with the community due to her passion for fish 🥰

We showed her around the department and shes been so kind to feature us on her YouTube channel.

This will get people talking.... 🙈

We’ve turned our Fluval Roma into a BLACKWATER AQUASCAPE 🖤🌿🐟

And… it’s definitely had mixed opinions 😂

The fish fanatics get it. They LOVE it.
The curious customers passing through who aren’t into fishkeeping? They think we’ve just left the tank to go dirty 🤣

But there’s actually a reason for the madness!

Blackwater tanks recreate the natural environments that many tropical fish come from, where leaves, wood and other botanicals release tannins into the water. This gives it that gorgeous tea-coloured tint and can create a more natural, calming environment for the fish.
We’ve added botanicals such as leaves, seed pods and wood, which slowly release tannins, provide natural hiding places and grazing surfaces, and help create that dark, sheltered environment that cardinal tetras naturally feel comfortable in.

The tannins can also help lower the pH, particularly in softer, low-buffered water. This helps recreate the soft, slightly acidic conditions that cardinal tetras naturally prefer.

The tannins also have mild natural antimicrobial and antifungal properties, which can help create a healthier environment for fish and support their natural defences.

So no… we haven’t forgotten to clean the tank.
Yes… the brown water is intentional.
And yes… Allan has been told he’s NOT allowed to drink it. 😂

It’s blackwater, people. Trust the process. 🖤🐟

Its fish friday where we highlight one of the many species of fish we have in store 🥳🐟

Today we captured some shots of our Parrot fish. We love Parrot fish and we think they make great pets... provided you have the space to accommodate this large species 😁

💧 Why are water changes so important?

Your fish might look happy, your water might look crystal clear, and everything might seem fine… but that doesn’t mean the water is actually healthy.

As fish eat, poo and breathe, waste builds up in the water. Ammonia and nitrite can become dangerous, and nitrates gradually rise too.

A regular water change removes those unwanted pollutants and replaces them with fresh, clean water. It also helps keep your fish healthier, reduces stress and keeps your tank environment more stable. 🐟

And no, topping the tank up when water evaporates isn't the same as doing a water change! 👀

Generally, a weekly water change is a good routine for most aquariums 😁
