The 8th summer here in this garden and I’m finally finding what works best, gone are the huge cumbersome shrubs that offer too much shade and no beauty. Left is light and space for roses and peonies and beautiful annuals to enjoy during my favourite months of the year. The fence my husband laboured over also looks rather lovely.

Plenty of projects and neglected spaces but it’s ok to pause and enjoy the progress made ✨

Plant peonies, I let them feel the full force of sun on their leaves and they will repay you with huge beautiful buds for decades to come. Just the best 🌸

I’m at the stage with several of my plants where I can cut flowers without worrying I’m removing too many of the leaves they need to gather strength for next year. Peonies in the house for the next few weeks 💕

✨ Name a sweeter scent ✨

This was the first year for a very long time that I didn’t sow any autumn sweet peas 🫛 life was just too hectic and I couldn’t find the time or energy. I wondered if sowing them in spring and getting shorter stems would be worth it but I sowed some anyway, just at for me to inhale and enjoy. I don’t think you can find a more nostalgic sweet scent. This year I must get back on form and autumn sow ✨

Would love to get a list of new varieties to try, let me know your favourites? 🙏🏻

I have a couple of bunches of blue/mauve highly scented sweet peas for £4 each

I also have several bunches of these beautiful Canterbury bells, in white or mauve. The vase life of these is crazy, they look so beautiful in a tall vase in their own £7

You won’t find either of these in the supermarket!!
