Despite the past year being filled with uncertainties in the world of independent retail (and beyond), we have had an absolute blast. The move to our new shop has been such fun and a huge success. We’re excited for the future ahead.

We’ve always strived to be a community focused shop, which is why we added the play area in when designing the space. It has been such a pleasure to be that safe space for parents / grandparents / carers and their children to come and play or take a break. We’ve got to know so many of you personally, sharing stories, tears and hugs, and to us, that’s what it’s all about.

Alice and I have also both had big years personally, with the happiest of news being that we’re both pregnant and both due in the next two months!

In order for us to continue running Squid & The Kid to the standard we’d like, we’ve had to look at making some small changes to help both us and you guys. So with that being said… we are SO EXCITED to introduce you to Nook…

Wonderful Pip has taken over the back space / play area from us and she will be opening a fully functioning play cafe, called Nook, from February 2024.

Pip is creative, kind and warm. Our values align, she’s a primary school teacher, big on community and there is no one else more perfect to take on the space, and make it her own, than her. She’s turning it into something very special.

Here is a little note from Pip about the new upcoming space…

‘Supporting children and their families has long been my passion and I’m sooo excited to open this cafe! Particularly alongside the wonderful Alice and Alex and their gorgeous shop. Nook will be a warm, welcoming space for children, parents & everyone in the community to play, learn and connect. And of course, eat and drink!! I can’t wait to get to know so many more of you and share Nook with you all. Watch this space...’

The current play area will be permanently closed from 1st January for just over a month while Pip carries out her renovations. The main shop will be open as normal from Thursday 4th January.

HO HO HO, Santa is coming to Squid!

Bring your little ones to meet Santa and receive a little gift. We ask for £4 per child and all proceeds go towards funding our weekly playgroup.

We’ll be holding two Santa sessions on Sunday 18th December. A morning one from 10-12 and then an afternoon session between 2-4pm.

No need to book, just turn up!

We’re so excited to welcome the awesome into our new Squid & The Kid shop, to play songs for kids and their adults 🎸

He’ll be playing every Monday morning (during term time) from 11am. No need to book, just turn up and it’s £4 per child.

Starting Monday 21st November, 11am.

🎄LATE NIGHT SHOPPING🎄

We’re holding a week of private late night Christmas shopping events (in our brand new shop!!).

Maximum of 10 people per evening to keep it intimate and cosy. No minimum, so if you fancy some solo shopping you’re more than welcome too!

We’ll provide drinks, canapés and a shiny new shop to have all to yourself.

We’ll be running it on the following evenings:

Starting from 6pm.
