The 2026 Atlas Mountain Race kicks off in Morocco this evening, and it’s shaping up to be a seriously tough edition. A particularly harsh winter has left its mark on the terrain, so conditions are likely to be more demanding than ever.

It’s also a year of change for the AMR. For the first time since the race began, the start line moves to Beni Mellal — capital of the Beni Mellal–Khénifra Region, and a perfect launch point into the heart of the High Atlas. From there, the route eventually reconnects with familiar ground: the colonial piste to Afra, the climb to Aguinane and CP2, the old colonial road, and the long final run into Essaouira.

Atlas is brutal even when everything goes to plan. This year? Expect an extra level of grit. Time to dotwatch.

Riding in this weather 🌦️ safety should always come first. No matter how careful you are we all still have accidents and need to protect our heads as a minimum when we cycle.
