Yesterday, Books by the River was proud to be part of Kingsbridge Show's National Year of Reading Project. With support from local councillors, we were able to provide over 200 books for FREE for the young children and their families visiting the show. The books were brand new, covered a wide age range, both fiction and non-fiction and were all gone in a matter of hours. 💙

A wonderful project, celebrating the importance of reading and providing the books children need 📚 💙

Some more happy book finders!! We even ventured a bit further afield this year and have been leaving books at Halwell & Moreleigh pump track, a very popular spot!

This week is our last week of the Summer Book Hunt and we would have hidden a total of 500 books! ☀️

A huge thank you again to all of our sponsors, this event makes a massive difference to our children's reading and their love of reading for pleasure.

This year, Kingsbridge Show is supporting the National Year of Reading by giving away brand new, high quality books to children and young families visiting the show.

The National Year of Reading has been running throughout 2026 and we are proud to support this at Kingsbridge Show by raising awareness, connecting with local young people and their families to support reading for pleasure and giving away free books.

Visitors to the show will be able to find a large basket of books in the Children's Arts & Crafts section of the show within the Horticultural Marquee. There will be books for a range of ages so have a good look through to find the right one for you and please be considerate of other families visiting the show by only taking one book per child.

Our Children's Arts & Crafts section is extremely popular with hundreds of wonderfully creative entries showcased each year. Therefore, it is the perfect place to celebrate reading. As you look around the section this year, you will see a new class of decorated bookmarks and the Young Adult Section theme is based on a book title. I wonder if you can work out which title each entry has focused on?

It is with thanks to Cllr Denise O'Callaghan and Cllr Julian Brazil for their generous sponsorship towards this project. Both councillors have supported reading in their local area for a number of years now through projects similar to this. Thank you also to Books by the River for sourcing the books.

We hope to see lots of visitors to the show popping into the Horticultural Marquee to enjoy viewing the wonderful entries on show and to pick up your books. Be sure to share the opportunity with other families and get in early as once they're gone, they're gone.

It's great to see so many smiley faces as the Book Hunt continues in Totnes this Summer Holiday!

We're coming into our last week this week and with nearly 100 books to still be hidden, we hope you can find one whilst out and about exploring Totnes.

We're out early today hiding books but also taking on the Totnes Library Summer Book Quest! This morning the girls wanted to do the pigeon counting challenge, on 9 so far!

We're half way to our target on books read and have been picking up our stickers to crack the code!

It's not too late to sign up to the Book Quest run in all libraries put on by Libraries Unlimited.
